Hi jag forum from the TVR fraternity , A long shot perhaps but worth a punt, I'm asking on here as my trusty wedge uses the xjs rear axle and differential, however having updated the powerplant I'm finding 1st and 2nd gears are almost useless so don't laugh, I'm looking if possible to replace the 3.54.1 xjs diff with a ratio of 3.07.1, evidently they exist but not on every shop shelf, so if there is anyone out there that knows one or better still has one that they would like to consider moving on please pm me for contact, regards John.

Why not go for a 2.88:1 from an XJS, they are plentiful and the car will still be still extremely tractable plus a lot easier to source bearings than earlier diffs.

Yes, I have looked at the 2.88.1, I'm concerned that I may not have the rapid excelleration that makes it unique, I understand I'm going to loose some but worried that I may loose too much, the pendulum might swing toooooo much the other way. Probably a lot of faffing about if it doesn't live up to expectations, this is where the seasoned experts can offer advice I hope. John.

Depends on where you want the acceleration, off the line or through the mid range where it's more useful more of the time. Unless you're into drag racing. Plot yourself a set of curves to see where the torque is going to be in the different gears at different speeds. You might find that you can use 2nd in places where otherwise you'd be using 3rd.

How does the diff fit into your TVR? As you probably know Jags use a cage. The angle of the top face of the diff casing does vary. Also method of fitment of the calipers. Early diffs had brackets that bolted to the diff then calipers bolted to the brackets. Later diffs the calipers bolted directly to the diff.

The diff is bolted on to a cradle and the cradle lifts up into the chassis and then bolted to chassis, there's a top brace bar stretching across the chassis and bolted to the four points on top, onboard discs and calipers bolted to the diff housing as normal.
Yeh I'm keeping an eye on the flebay.
Just re read last post, I'm sure the calipers bolt straight to the housing, my car is an E reg 1988.
