Looking for an s type R or XJR
Discussion
I'm looking for a decent XJR or S Type R towards the lower end of the price range 00-05ish
I have recently bought an Insignia Estate with 74k on it 09 plate upgraded 19 inch alloys etc, it's nice but not exciting enough. I was going to chip it but still don't think it will feel right for me. I got it thinking it was practical but I miss having a Jag.
Would love to hear from anyone wishing to part with one for a reasonable price or get tips on what to look out for problems wise when buying one. I'd consider PXing one towards my Insignia which I will advertise in classifieds in due course or buying one out right

There is an ad that has just come upon the Jag Drivers club on facebook. Looks pretty good although may need a little paint. https://www.facebook.com/browsegroups/?category=me...
Jaguar XJR 4.0 V8 Supercharged 95,000 miles
For Sale.
The 4.0 v8 runs like new with 370bhp its one very fast car it might be a big car but it doesn't matter 0 to 60 in 5 seconds will leave most cars at the lights but you guys probably know all about these beautiful cars.
its a 1st time starter every time no smoke has had the all important timing chains replaced in August.
...has a service history up to 65,000 with jaguar and two independent garage stamps in the book and a receipt for oil and filters in August. The gearbox changes up and down like it should. Everything works as it should. However it does require a small amount of tlc, the headlining has the Jaguar curse and is sagging and would benefit from some paint around the fuel filler, the seam opposite and the off side front wheel arch. Located in Leighton Buzzard. Offers invited around £2000. Genuine reason for the sale, I would like a newer one.

I picked up what I consider to be a bargain S Type R about a month ago, full history, latterly with Chiltern Classics, stack of receipts, all old MOTs, new brakes all round (by the look of them), four very good and OE Continentals, sat nav, phone, electric sunroof etc and 71,000 miles on the clock for sub £5k (from a dealer) - so far I'm very impressed
alot of car for 5k mate. really like the s type r so under-rated. far classier than a beamer or merc IMO. there's nothing really like a nice Jag. I'll let you know what I go for, looks like I'm going to be stuck with the Insignia and a big Jag the Mrs has already voiced concerns... unsurprisingly!

When sourcing the S Type R make sure the 'Valley Pipe' has been replaced as when this goes (and it will) can cost quite a bit in terms of time spent to strip the top of the engine down just to replace a simple pipe.Do a search on here and the thread will pop up.
The part is cheap but the mechanics rates may take the smile of ownership experience.
Hope this heads up is helpful to you and don't think I am trying to scare you as when these car's move they will put a smile on your face :-)
Good luck with the search.
Ended up getting the xjr s6 devil recommended so cheers for the heads up mate... lovely motor for the price few little bits need doing on it but for what i got it for it's not a problem.... very fast too. and looks the part. wouldn;t mind the stype r as well but that would be silly i think the mrs may veto that somehow!

Glad you got sorted. It sounded like a good car although needing a little tlc. I had a saggy headliner. I didn't fancy removing and replacing it, so used twist pins to hold it up. Looks fine to me and a cheap fix. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hillman-Fastener-Corp-12...
I've had mine 4 years, it's my daily drive and I still love it. Enjoy!

I just bought an '01 XJR (first road Jag since an 2000 V6 S-type which nearly killed me financially), what a lovely driver, like you I couldn't resist a bit of a hoon off the M6 tolls. Gave the lowered highly modified luminous green Astra in the next bay a bit of a shock AdeV said:

^^^^^^Yea not many astras could keep up with the XJR... it's also not just how fast you get to 60 it's how you get there!
I like the fact that if you're not a car enthusiast or fairly knowledgeable you would have no idea how fast the XJR is
Those pins for the headlining look like an easy fix may well pick some up. Doesn't really bother me too much. Bought some dinitrol underseal to stop the wheel arches going, they aren't too bad at the moment but a bad winter could sent them on their way. Also got some leather cleaner as the cream leather has a few marks on it. Get the easy bits done first

I've always liked the way the s type looks tbh despite alot of criticism regarding the front grill i think they look great
here's another pic of the xjr... had a problem with the fuel gauge sticking and not moving lower than three quarters full. had a tinker today took the fuel level sensor out of the tank, played aroun with it a bit, put it back in and it's working again. one less job to do. took it out for a spin after and it drives amazingly
