clocks

hi,

just a quick question, are the clocks in the 1998 xj/xjr surpose to light up or dont these clocks have a light on them at night time? just when your driving along you have to turn the map light on to see the time?

Mine had a green glow to them, and came on automatically when the lights came on. I used to keep the stalk in the position where the lights would come on automatically when sensing low light levels.

Hi, The clock is illuminated. I've just looked up the diagram for a '98 XJ series, live to the clock is: Red + Pink, Earth for the clock is: Black + Pink. The clock illumination is fed along with all the other instrument lights on the same feed, which is CONTROLLED by the "Dimmer" control to the right of the steering wheel. So if all the others are working, I'd go for the bulb.
