Hi guys, I've been a bit of a lurker in the jag section as I haven't really had anything to post. But now I do!! smile

I have been offered the chance to buy a 3.0 manual s type. It's a 1999 car with service history, 83,000 miles and 12 months test. The chap wants £950 for it.

Would this make a decent machine to waft about in for a year? Is there anything in particular I should look out for?

Cheers
Tom

the pre 2002/2003 face lift cars (the ones with a manual handbrake) are not the best

for very similar money you can get a post faclift much nicer car.

At this end of the market manual is the best gearbox, as an auto will be close to death and more expensive than the car to fix.

If you know the car well and its been very well looked after, by all means at under a grand an early one wont be terrable, but for me its got to be the later car, completely different.

Listen for noisey diff bearings and rattly / knocking engines, run away if this is the case.

Check for rusty wheel arches

Make sure everything electrical works especially the heating and a/c

look for tyre wear on the edges, can be as simply as tracking, but more likely worn suspention bushes, costly to replace if you pay labour.
