XJ 8 heater won't go - just a/c

I have a 1998 XJ8. The unit has A/C on always - even if I set the temp to 90 degrees.

(The a/c works exactly as it should - so themastat doesn't appear to be the problem... ?

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean that if you set temp to max it still blows freezing cold air? Or that the air-con is always on, but the temperature is still adjustable through warm and cold etc.

Its a common mis-conception that air-con=cold air. But it 'conditions the air' for temp, humidity etc, in my g/friends Range Rover the a/c is always 'on', but there is a switch to turn it off if you want to but there is no need for that.

As far as i'm aware all climate controlled cars use the A/C pump constantly to remove damp air aswell as to cool - so this is quite normal.

If you want the A/C pump off which I generally do as it takes up horse power and adds to fuel consumption - just press the A/C button until the red indicator extinguishes.

I mean the first sentence above. I set the temp to 90 - still get freezing cold air. (I understand that the a/c light is always on.)

? condenser problem or maybe heater matrix.

These XJ8 have real problems with faulty thermastats
every one we sell we change change, also have problems with the water pump impeller falling off
many be some help???
