Which windscreen wiper for an X308 XJ?
Discussion
Afternoon,
I'm after getting a replacement windscreen wiper for my 2000 Jaguar XJ. The current wiper fitted is in good shape physically, but it just doesn't clean the screen very well. I did read somewhere that these cars are quite wiper specific due to their curved screen. This one glides silently over the glass but seems to have a poor contact and leaves the glass smeary, even on a freshly washed screen.
Any recommendations for a replacement? I'm loath to start buying wipers trying to find one to fit, especially since they all seem to come in packs of two!

I presume you mean just the blade, rather than the arm too?
The original genuine Jaguar blade is still available from SNG Barratt and David Manners. The part number is GJA8960BB. This is what I would put on.
SNG Barratt want £17.68+VAT for a genuine Jag one. Their website says they have them in stock: http://www.sngbarratt.com/PartSearchResults.aspx?p...
David Manners have the genuine Jaguar one at the same price, but if that is a little steep, they also have an aftermarket version for £8+VAT: http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/PartView.asp?pa...
A further Googling (I generally buy from SNG Barrat and Manners, by habit) reveals British Parts have an aftermarket wiper blade for only £4.50: http://britishparts.co.uk/products/9281-wiper-blad...

I advised you about this on another thread (possibly the Barge one)
Basically you've either got the Jag blade at about £20 or a Federal Mogul budget 'Rainy Day' blade for a couple of quid. I tried both Bosch and Trico blades first and found that the end of the blade on both of these hangs straight and doesn't clear the screen.

Thanks for the comprehensive answers guys. I may give the aftermarket replica of the original a spin from the supplier to see how that works. It's not so much that the ends don't touch down and it wipes a clean spot in the middle, rather that it just leaves a wet smear across the whole windscreen. It is silent though, so it's not catching and dragging. I'm going to order a new one (it's currently wearing a Bosch blade) and clean the screen with methylated spirit and maybe give it a RainX treatment.
The car is getting it's first car package this week, new wiper blade on the front and two new tyres on the back.
