XF S 3.0D DPF Problem
Discussion
Hi,
Got a 2010 XF 3.0D and the DPF warning is coming on more and more often, is this purely due to frequent short trips in the car? Getting a bit tiring having to take it for a 30 min blast up the motorway to clear it!
Also, if accelerating hard (foot down) on motorway the 'restricted performance' mode cuts in, again more and more often, I'm having to drive even more carefully now.
Cheers

It sounds daft, but take it for a long drive. The engine needs to get hot to activate the DPF regeneration cycle.
Maybe take it for a long drive, and drive hard, with sustained revs (motorway, dual carriageway) and see if it's better afterwards.
Lots of short journeys don't allow the cycle to happen, and as such the filter gets clogged and can't start it's 'burn off' cycle.
If it makes you feel any better, lots of people with modern diesels only doing short trips suffer the same issues.

Wife has a Ford Fiesta Sport 1.6 diesel, usually used for hopping about locally, so it could have the same DPF issue as your Jaguar. So, as we live near the M25 every so often I take it for "brisk" drive for maybe an hour on the M25 usually in the late evenings. This seems to keep the DPF functioning well and not clogging up. I think that to refresh the DPF it is necessary to maintain a pretty constant speed, above 60 say, for some time.

I owned a 2010 3.0S from new for nearly 2 years. OK for 30k miles in 18 months then total disaster with PDF failing to regenerate leading to rising oil level in the sump and engine management lights coming on then going into limp home mode. My dealer couldn't,t sort out the problem so they called in the J aguardiente works engineers who could do no better. It was recovered on a trailer 6 times in three months, the last time from Geneva, wrecking a holiday. I then got rid of it at a huge loss. It went back on the market and I believe two subsequent owners had it for just a few months each. I've owned other diesels with no issues at all, a RR Evoque at present which hacks around in heavy traffic and low miles with no issues. My conclusion is that there may be some 'dog' 3.0S models out there, I certainly know of one.
