hi,

Yesturday i became an 1998 xjr owner, and am very very pleased with it, but theres one thing i need help with. I thought that all xj/xjr came with the cd multiplayer, but i was wrong, as it didnt come with it so i gather it was an extra option. so what i was thinking was can i buy a multichanger and plug it straight in? as it didnt come with a changer and there is no hole in the boot where most players where fitted, would the wiring be there that goes to the boot? or do i have to buy cable or what every i need to connect it to the front stereo?? plus does it have to be a jaguar multichanger or would anyone do? if anyone knows of what other makes will work with the jaguar stereo please can you let me know?

many thanks for any replys

You are in the same boat as me - you can only fit an OE changer due to this particular model year. Rather than spend £500 on a changer, I bought a 40Gb iPod and an FM transmitter/charger........

hi,

so if i buy a jaguar autochanger would i be able to just plug it straight in, but as the car didnt have an autochanger fitted, does that mean the wiring wont be there? will i have to buy the cable to fit it to the main stereo?

plus, would a autochanger from an x type or s type fit?work in my 1998 xjr?

many thanks for your replys

You have to buy a specific cd changer for this model only (due to the in-built phone system). All the wiring is already there, but the audio system won't recognise any other CD changer even if you get the correct connections/cables for another CD changer. Unfortunately, you can't even use either an earlier or later model of CD changer from an XJ/XK.

Give up trying to get any other changer to work and buy an iPod or spend £500 and get the OE changer from Jaguar........
