Yes I know boring (in mitigation I do have a motorbike and an M3!)

I am looking at getting a 2.2 for motorway work (500 miles a week). I will get one from a main Jag dealer but anything in particular to look out for? I had an S-type a few years ago for similar work (which was great) but looking for something a little smaller this time round

cheers

Ok cars really. The EGR needs a regular clean, and they do like a clutch every 70k or so. Rear suspension can creak, needing new links, and the interior is a bit old fashoined.

Cheers agree it looks old fashioned (inside and out) but I actually prefer it to some of the newer stuff I have looked at, there is some really tatty stuff out there that isnt that old that just looks and feels a bit well....... I will be sat in this for a lot of hours each week so wanted something comfy and quiet and I hope this fits the bill smile

I have the petrol 2.5 and do 500 a week, in fact I've done all 105,000 miles in mine since new 2006. The interior does not rattle and is well screwed together and I have full cream leather and just keep it clean and feed the drivers seats bolster to stop them cracking, people comment it looks brand new inside. They are heavy cars, bushes clonk and like to wear the inside of the front tyres first, so check tyres on full lock, inners could be on beading and outside full tread.
Many diesels are ex lease and even late 59 plate cars can have inter stella mileage. The diesels were really pushed by Jaguar into the company market in the later years of the X type. Some Official Jaguar dealers still are selling used X types but they are asking silly prices.

I'd be after a clutch at that age, price & mileage.

I paid £4k for a 55 plate with 56k on a year ago.

Not something I would consider asking for to be honest, but it has a Jaguar 12 month warranty, will be serviced, new MoT and 6 months tax, so I am happy with the deal smile

I have a 2003 2.5 sport and its one of the best all rounders I have ever owned.

I had bought a car to replace it a week or so back but can't bear to part with it, so I have just sold my classic MR2 that I have had since 2001 instead.

for distance work, I have never had anything like it. I know deep down it has few admirers in the automotive world and worth next to nothing if I sold it, but its worth the world to me.

I hope you enjoy yours half as much as I do mine.

I'd echo Spudguns comments.

I bought a 2006 3.0 Sovereign as an impulse really, and it's the best all rounder I've owned. Supremely comfortable, well built, reliable and some excellent equipment considering it's age. The leather seats are excellent quality, better than the wife's XF tbh.

A bonus for being easy to work on and parts are cheap, as is insurance.

Good pal of mine has an '06 2.2d. Now on 145k and still on original clutch, just sevices it on schedule and it keeps on going.

Nice place to be on a motorway.

Edit: Saw my pal today, mileage actually 172k now!! Still original clutch and DMF but he did do the ERG valve at about 40k miles, about 15 months after he purchased it.
