XKR 4.0 5 Speed or 4.2 6 Speed???
Discussion
So here I am still trawling through the used car ads, with my heart set on a 4.0 2001/2002 XKR. When I start to notice that 4.2 XKR's are starting to drop into the upper thirty thousand pound mark. Anyone convince me otherwise that I won't beable to tell the difference between the 2?
I did go for a test drive in a 4.2 a few months back and just loved the 6 speed gear box. And just the thought over 400HP is too cool to turn down. What di I hold out for?
Anyone had both types with some insight?

Hi Triple7, I was in exactly the same situation as you recently....Firstly I wanted a post "Nikasil" car then a 2001 car came up, then a 2002 4.2 was advertised and I REALLY stretched myself and realised that I just had to have that car..... The gearbox is great and as for 400 bhp, well......! I think that come resale, the extra outlay will prove a worthwhile investment, having said that the 4.0 is also great. Either way, JUST DO IT, you wont regret it...That supercharger "whine" is very addictive! I also noted that, like me, you have been inquiring about exhaust systems.....let us all know what you decide.(ps, the car pic in your profile looks great....mine is "midnight" colour, too). I,too, found this forum invaluable. Also look at the following forum.....

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the pic ain't my car......yet! I'm shopping around, most XKR's I've been looking at have dropped 2 grand in the past 2 months, hence 4.2's are cropping up close to my budget. I am after ethier a 4.2 Coupe or the other is the Limited Edition XKR100. I want Recaro seats!
As fort he exhaust, I'll be popping done to Racing Green...............................

Hmmmmmm, luvverly cars. A mate of mine used to own a Silverstone conv. special edition. That was, obviously, "just" the 4.0 5-speed. More than adequate, I'd say.
Spotted a gorgeous black XKR on a '54 plate in Weybridge earlier today. It had the multi-spoke 20" wheels, mesh grill and looked fabulous.
I know the XK8 is due to be replaced next year, but I think it looks better now than it did when it was launched.

I have had hairy a***d TVRs and Porsches and a long list of others - BUT my XKR Conv. 4.0 is the business. I have tried the 4.2, and don't get me wrong, it is good, but I'll stay where I am, for the moment at least! Go for the 4.0 and put the saving into something else - A boat maybe?
