I have a stereo problem!

At last I can post here with my head high - for yesterday I rejoined the ranks of Jaguar ownership after a break of 10 years

I'm now the proud owner of a lovely pacific blue S-Type 3.0 SE in Pacific Blue with cream leather and 18" Monaco alloys

However, there are just two things I need to sort out. Biggest problem is the stereo: the car has a built-in double-DIN unit which provides radio and a cassette slot (ugh). The CD multichanger has been removed and the seller swore it was like that when he bought it...

So now I have radio, or nothing (I gave up cassettes years ago)

My preferred method of playing recorded music is MiniDisc - I have a Sony minidisc player in the BMW and it was very handy to choose from about 25 MDs while going along and stick one in the slot.

So - what can I do to play MDs in the Jaguar? Is there a double DIN head unit, or can I remove the existing one and replace it with my current MD player and a coin tray/draw/type thing underneath to fill the space?

NB I don't want a seperate player, iPod, Walkman or anything else that nees to be plugged in or have CDs played into it for days!!!

The other, smaller but irritating thing is that the clock is stuck on BST and I can't change it. The car has voice activation so I wonder if that's an answer?

Most US Fords have a double DIN unit so pretty much every manufacturer offers a replacement head unit with whatever format suits you best. I'd look online.

Thanks Gavin. Unfortunately Jaguar didn't do an MD head for the 1999-2002 S-Type. After much discussion with various parts of Jaguar, installers and e-mail swapping (and agonising over units on eBay), I've plumped for a CD or MP3 changer. The Jag version is £500 but a good installer has offered to fit an aftermarket one for £199. It won't use the existing wiring, but connect to the head unit via an adaptor.
Fitting music systems to Jaguars is much more like installing hardware in a PC: if the car doesn't recognise the unit, you're screwed! So I'm happy to let a professional take the responsibility this time.

I have seen this on "general" i think, you could go the FM modulator route, not the type that transmits but interupts the aerial signal. Email me for details
