I am bumping this back to the top because I am not used to paying for information on the net.
I am an enthusiast and want to meet like minded people and I dont see why I have to pay to be a part of that.
The more I think of it the more I think if there are only 147 members of the xk8 / xkr enthusiasts club then there are plent people still out there that might be up for this.
I have organised events in the past for a previous online club www.mx6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61277 and we have had a lot of great meetings.
Including just days out to a pub carpark to talk crud and then retire for a pint and a pub lunch. (I dont need much more of an excuse to meet than that)
I am not knocking what the club brings to people and in time I will probably join but my question is still. Who would be up for it when things warm up??

I am one of those 147, this time last year it was 17. It may be small now, but the forum is busier than this jag board, and the events are brilliant. For a one model club, it is diong very well, an inclusive club for an exclusive automobile.
Membership now about 1 0wner in every 500

John I am sure the forum is busier than this board. You have the right BB Set up for a start.
I say again I am not knocking the Club as I am aware of what you can gain from them but to make the meets exculsive to members is a bit of a mistake IMO. The best way to get new members is have regular get togethers where new people can just show up and chat.
As for the TVR meet I still go to mx-6 and probe meets and frequent a club called Autophoria.org which is for now is still mainly probes but has members with BMW FORD NISSAN MISTU etc I go to as mant meets as i can.
The TVR one on the 9th is a bit to way out for me from manchester especially as i have to drive down to Poole on Monday.

Banny,Thanks for the follow up, that's a very good point you make about attracting new members, maybe we could have something like that at XKEC.

Hi all. I just read this and thought i should reply. As Chairman of the club mentioned I can fully understand both points of views. The reason obviously for the club is about exclusitivity and offering the best benefits to any owners who simply want to take part as there wasn't a club out there that was specifically doing this at the time. The membership costs involved mainly go towards the publication of the newsletter and the events come as an added extra. If non members want to get together for meets that's fantastic and I sincerely congratulate them on doing so as at the end of the day the objective is to get as much pleasure out of owning these cars as you can, whether that means joining a club or not. I honestly hope that in time non members will maybe consider joining what is relatively a new venture and help us simply raise the profile of XK8 and XKRs across the car fraternity. The club is there simply to offer a wide range of benefits other than just attending events. Good luck with your meets and let us know when they take place as I'm sure members would be only too happy to attend. Keep up the good work at Pistonheads. By the way, we do have an annual show at Beaulieu in May which is open to members and non members alike so perhaps we will see you there?
