They don't make 'em like the used to....

Since my Dad first got his S-Type a couple of years ago, I have always thought it was a superb car and wonderered why so many people slated it. However, yesterday I was given an insight as to why people do put down the S-Type, and indeed, the X-Type.
My Dad had put his car in with our local Jag specialist, after I finally persuaded him to stop going to the local rip-off merchant- erm, sorry, I mean Main Dealer. As his courtesy car, he was given a 1994 XJ6 4.0 Sports.
Simply put, it is beautiful. He was kind enough (or possibly stupid enough!) to let me take it for a spin. I have never been in such a comfortable car in my life. The whole cabin just exuded quality. The 4.0 litre straight 6 was wonderful, especially coupled to the silky auto box. Sport mode was great fun!
Whilst I was thoroughly enjoying myself, I began to realise why a lot of people don't like some of the newer Jags. The car had a grace and presence on the road that the S-Type and X-Type just don't have. They just don't really quite feel like Jaguars in the same way.
So after this experience, I have been forced to conceed that,in this case, they really don't make 'em like they used to.

I haven't had the pleasure of driving the new XJ, so can't comment on it's 'Jaguarness' yet.
