1961 Beacham Jaguar XK150 V8 for auction at Coys Nurburgring, 10th August.
I really like this

Sacrilege to do this to a classic or do you think it's OK?

It'll offend the purists no doubt but I think, providing it's done properly with due consideration to integrity and structural ridgitity that kind of conversion is the best of both worlds.

Classic styling combined with modern performance, reliability, emissions and drivability - what's not to like?

I remember seeing a Mk11 Beacham at Racing Green Jaguar, it was beautifully built.

Racing Green are/were the/an agents for Beacham in the UK, don't know if that's still the case now that Peter isn't there any longer.
I've not seen one of their XK150 mods, I always felt the Mk2 version didn't look quite right to me. I felt it looked like a Mk2 body on top of something that didn't quite fit underneath it. I could easily be wrong, it might just be an effect of the wheel arches being full.
The E-Types they did looked good, but then I guess a Series III E was designed to take a V12, so popping a little V8 shouldn't be too hard.
The quality of the workmanship looked outstanding.

When I last visited RG Cars the had a Black series 3 Etype fitted out with 4.2 XKR Running gear and interior
but despite them agreeing it was a brilliant concept but badly executed because they always had bad problems that they were sick of having to pay to correct themselves because Beacham didn't know the answers. Don't know where they are now so not sure if they still have it.

What on earth is the point of putting a V8 into a V12 E Type for goodness sake. The V12 defines the car. Buy an XK8, job done. Similarly, would you buy an XK150 with a V8 in it? Why? The idea is nuts. You want a 3.4 or 3.8 litre six. That is the whole point.

They are quite fun with a 4.2 in them too biglaugh

I'm not sure about the XK150 version, Mk2 version looks more like someone has balanced the body shell of a Mk2 on top of the underpinnings of the XKR/XJR.
