Not sure about what the problem is but...
Walk away, its probably happened lots of times

Could it be a faulty ECU causing intermittent cutting out?

Could be almost anything. Most likely is going to be a dodgy idle control valve or crank sensor if you are talking about as revs coming down and err. not stopping at idle. Walk away.

Ask Jaguar I believe there has recently been a recall for this problem.I think it was something to do with the throttle assembly.

It wasn't a green one with a N Ireland number plate LAZ8083 was it? I only ask because my old one did exactly the same thing once or twice and I never got to the botttom of it. The other thing it was prone to was flooding if you had to move it a few feet on the drive after which it was a real pig to start again.

My XKR did this , it would happen during warm up if you gave it a little bit too many revs it would just cut out .
Stop put into park and it would start first time and run normally , it only happend when cold and in 2 years it only happend 7-8 times
