XJ Steering Rack Bushes
Discussion
Well, I've now got the XJS back on the road with a new rack and poly bushes (rather than the standard rubber ones). What a difference! Crisp and accurate steering with none of the previous vague lack of direction feeling.
If you've got an XJS/XJ6/XJ40 (etc) with the original Jaguar fitted rubber bushes, I can't suggest strongly enough that you get these upgraded to the poly version.
At about £6 per pair (you need three pairs), it's the cheapest and most radical improvement to a car's handling I've ever known!
Oh, and if you've got an XJS which needs a replacement rack, make sure you get the right 2.9 lock-lock rack (other XJ racks fit but are 3.5+ which gives a slower response).

That's good to hear Sheepy! I'm having my steering Pump & Rack refurbed next week and all the associated front end bushes replaced with nice modern ones at the same time.
I had all the back end bushes and mounts done a couple of weeks ago, and I must say the difference is staggering. Gone is that floaty/bouncy feeling when cornering it just sits there steady as a rock.
Just what Tom Walkinshaw would have wanted!
Once any vagueness has been removed from the steering I'll be in heaven.
With a bit of tweaking I reckon a late XJS is the best gran turismo you can buy on a sensible budget, and bollocks to Top Gear and their ill-informed opinions.
