XF - All windows suddenly open - WHY???

I have a lovely XFR. However in the three months I have had it I have had 3 random instances where I come out to it in the morning to find all the windows down. This morning it was the same and the boot was ajar as well.

Can anyone suggest why this may be happening

I have had a suggestion of a 'Global opening' setting, but surely this would not do this randomly

Keyless entry ?

BMW seemed to have similar problems with their Comfort Access.

Yeah, its Keyless. tried pressing all the buttons on the fob in different sequences to see if it triggers anything, but so far nothing

I think you will find that if you press and hold the door open button then all the windows drop.
This can be done accidentally by having it in your trouser pocket and sitting down within range.

I had the same thing happen to me once - you need some less tight trousers or become thinmaninajag

A search might throw up other threads.

There are similar reported issues with BMW, and no doubt other makes; suggestions range from an external source/signal activating them (more obvious if always happens at same location) to faulty module somewhere.

I have a Focus RS - don't stop me yet - and my old man has an XF. As far as I can tell the keyless works in exactly the same way in a lot of other ways.

So as someone said above, pressing and holding unlock will possibly open the windows.

Equally, pressing and holding lock will do the opposite.

So it's possible you were sat on the key!

Mr-Man, you are DaMan! brilliant, never knew it did that and I think that has solved the problem. Keeping my keys in my weekend budgie smugglers clearly isnt the thing to do.

If you want to get the keyless-entry electronics of an XF (which I own) really confused, don't do what I have done more than once, by having the key fob in my pocket, while stowing the spare fob in a briefcase which I was carrying in the boot ....

I agree with previous responses, which suggest that the best thing to do is not to carry the fob where you might accidently sit on it. squeeze it into a briefcase, or anything else likely to operate a button/buttons without your knowledge ....

It's not confined to Jags - I've had the same problem on a VW and a Lexus.

As suggested by a previous poster it's probably due to holding the key fob button down too long.

I'm not sure what the purpose of the function is though ?

Ever had a car in a hot climate? Being able to open all the windows before you have to get in can save you being fried alive in the few seconds it takes to open the car, start the engine, put the aircon onto max and close every thing before running back into shade while the car cools down.

Should be called 'Global warming' opening in that case.

I am hoping it can be disabled in the system setup somewhere as it is frankly unecessary in our climate and rather irritating when you come down on a rainy morning to find all windows down.

Much better if you can switch the air con on before you get to the car.

Thanks for this, couldnt find it where you said it was but using these details I scrolled down and found it, also found the XF folding mirrors in that menu and will use this to turn the folding mirrors off for very frosty mornings. Been looking for this folding mirrors option for 2+ years on my SV8.
