Hi There

2004 S Type R, 120k miles. For a while the reversing beeper sound has changed a little from normal - slightly higher pitch and probably a little quieter. Yesterday it stopped all together.

Anyone else had this? Is it a known problem? Is there an easy fix?

Thanks

Guy

Reversing beeper like a truck? Or do you mean parking sensor?

Hi

I had a similar problem on an 05.

If you get someone you trust to sit in the car, engine running, with the car in reverse, with the brake on. Go to the rear and put your ear to each sensor, working sensors will emite a crakling type noise. In my case only 3 did, so I was able to locate the failed sensor. If you get no crackling noise from all 4, it is the control unit that has failed.

If you locate a failed sensor, they aren't that expensive, the dificult bit is getting it sprayed to the right colour and removing the bumper!

Hope this helps.

My sensors (06) are intermittent and sometimes they work, sometimes not. As it's my first car with them I can still use my wits not to hit things and just live with it.

Often - it's corrosion. Get it out and clean up all the contacts. Try not to leave it out all night in the rain etc.etc.

Back in the day, it was the control module under water shorting out. S-types from 1999 - 2004 let quite a lot of water in the boot. Most dealers "modified" the boot foor to prevent this build up. But you still see one from time to time.

Worth a quick looker under the boot carpet. If you spare wheel is knee deep, thats your proplem.

wavey

With your advice I did this 'modification' to my last S-Type. 5mm diameter IIRC smile

I have a similar problem with my 2007 S-Type R and have also changed the rear parking sensor module for a second hand one I bought from a Jag specialist on eBay who said the module was working.

The situation now is that there is no longer a 3 second beep when I go into reverse as was the case with the original sensor module, but as before, none of the sensors are clicking or working.

I did an OBD scan which picked up the following error with the Parking Aid Module: B1299 Power supply sensor – circuit short to ground. The scanner recommends that the power circuit to the module should be checked for a short circuit to ground and the wiring harness repaired.

The wiring harness in the vicinity of the module looks OK to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on where this short circuit is likely to be? Is the fact that I no longer get the 3 second beep when going into reverse mean that the parking sensor module must be OK?

Thanks for any help.

I have these fitted in my Volvo after purchase, they have been there about 10 years, lately they work sometimes with the usual beep beep beep sound, other times a continuous sound when engaging reverse.

How did you get your ones out, from outside the bumper or from inside, looked in the boot of my volvo, cant see how to get to them, and cant see any access from underneath either, do they just pull out?

Sometimes when I back out of the drive (XK but probably the same kit) and the sensors are a bit damp it sounds like Morse code! Other than 'SOS' I don't know Morse code so I have no idea what they're saying...
