XJS V12 Manual Conversion & ITB's & Maybe TWR Rep
Discussion
I have finished my 5 speed conversion and had the car stripped back all glass etc. removed and complete repaint.
I'm now just deciding if I want pin stripes or leave it plain.
Finally managed to attend some shows this year and off to Bicester this weekend.
Previous owner to me had already spent a very large amount with KWE sorting the usual rust, suspension and brake upgrades together with a complete engine rebuild.
So, touch wood, I am looking forward to some relatively pain free miles.

Sadly I am not skilled in mechanics. So I cannot claim credit for any of the work. Prior to my ownership the car had £37k spent with KWE which included complete body rebuild, engine and gearbox rebuild, uprated brakes, steering and suspension. KWE did the work over a couple of years and I bought it 10 years and only 10,000 after that.
I sourced a NOS Getrag 5 speed and a Rob Beere bell housing and flywheel. I have since realised how lucky I was to find those parts. Tom Lenthall did the conversion. I used the car as my daily driver over the winter of 2019/2020 there were a small number of blemishes in the paintwork and I wanted to do a complete repaint in 2020. Well 2020 became 2021 and now the car is looking great. I still have a few niggles to iron out but I am enjoying driving to shows and meets. I will be keeping this one now I have it exactly as I wanted.

I know it’s not a v12 but still an interesting spec and manual

Yes, been eyeballing that, although MOT history points to quite a few rust issues. I know it’s not a v12 but still an interesting spec and manual
There's this one that I've been stalking/lusting after. Was on Car and Classic as an auction. Bidding went to £19k, didn't sell, then briefly re-appeared in the classifieds at £23k, before re-appearing above at £30k. Strong money, but looked from the various photos I saw to be in good order (I'm no expert though - just a slightly obsessive car stalker).
Another interesting one: a 4.2 manual. MOT history looks clean too.

I have had a 1990 Jaguarsport XJRS 6.0 V12 for about 20 years in Bristol. Red with magnolia leather and the black chrome option.
They are a different animal to an XJS with a little bit more power (318bhp is about right) and more torque 360ftlbs. An equivalent Euro spec non cat 5.3l was 286bhp and 310 ftlbs. It has sequential injection and digital ignition, a big thing in 1990 that many cars have today, and no CAT. So it has a useful extra shove.
The GM400 3 speed transmission is all you need in the XJRS. If you want to go sport you just lock it in 2nd and off she flies. There may be some differences in valving in this box, it is very keen to kick down and hold a cog.
But there is a faster steering rack, different bushings, lowered and uprated springs and the famous bodykit and Speedline alloys. this thing is reputed to be 30% lower drag coefficient than an XJS. I doubt it is 30% in reality but at 160mph it is reasonably stable.
I have toyed with the idea of a manual transmission but this thing loafs around town and then blasts off into the distance on demand. There is no wallowing!!! if the transmission blows out I would consider a later GM 4 speed auto with converter lockup rather than a manual.
The Zytek system is mainly in the electronic box in the boot, the fuel injection parts look similar regarding pump, manifolds, injectors, throttle bodies as does the ignition which the business end is simply a GM HEI style module and a standard looking coil. If it ever does go pop I will look at another module but the parts are nothing special.
If I was starting from scratch again I would buy a late model XJS 4.0, Jaguarsport bodykit and use the supercharged AJ16 engine.

That’s exactly what I’d do, or bring an early manual DB7 up to 4.0sc.Thankfully TWR did a lot of homework for you and the DB7 components are good upgrades in most cases.
