Fabby day (after daft quali) today at Dony. I might get the hang of it one day!

What happened in qualifying....? I checked the times and results on the internet and there seemend to be a lot of people out of position?

It rained at about 8.30 and then stopped. So some went on slicks some on wets. It turned out to be too wet for slicks (and rained some more during quali). There were of course cars off all over the place and MSRV put out the safety car.

The qualifying gamble didn't work for me. Pleased to get the class win but with the points system and starting so far back no point in going all out. Felt bullish for race #2 until told that the new rules meant I had to start back in 11th again. Happy with getting it up to fourth in 2 laps but big vibration set in and broke the chain on last lap so a dnf. Booty did a monster job going from 14th to 2nd. Well deserved.

What's the general concensus on the new minimum weights? Presumably there's quite a few needing to add ballast.

I don't know what the weights were coming out at, but I didn't think it was too challenging.

Nearly fell off my office chair Saturday when checking the qually times of you PR6'ers! Made a bit more sense after getting a trackside report from a couple of the runners & riders mid morning, sounded like a bit of a lottery for sure.

Glad to see normal service resume with the fast starting PR6 boys making up plenty of places from the off & well done to the two Mark's on the class wins, much nicer to share those wins about eh guys!

What was the cause of the broken chain Mark, sounds odd, was it stretched at the start?

nice to see others at the pointy end now
as dsl said until i got a call from trackside i was wondering what was going on with the times, however dsl and myself can vouch for donny pk last year throwing up some strange results
there are a few strong contenders there for the championship so it should be as tight as ever.
good luck to you all.

Don't know yet Darren. It was a new chain too. The preceding lap it made two very clunky downshifts which started worrying me then no drive and that was that. More concerning was the front left vibration and no grip which came from nowhere about 3 laps in. mark and hamlet passed me like I had stopped.

I wonder if Radical have changed brands of chain supplier since last season?

Vibration could be a failing bearing in the front upright, you may recall I had the front nearside one go on my car at Thruxton last season, with the same sort of symptoms.

Lack of grip, mmm I'm sure you would of checked for a slow puncture or leaking tyre valve as per race one last year at donny for me? I think Hamlet was struggling with understeer certainly in race one so maybe it was just the track not being fully rubbered in this season, punishing the tyre so much it grains & goes greasy?

Hamlet's brand new LHF tyre was completely, utterly and dramatically shot after R1; if I gathered correctly, the problem was about/solved by adjusting the car's attitude i.e. simplistically, front needed to be lower compared to the back; so effected, he went much much better in R2 and the tyre looked fine. Chalk and cheese.

Again, if I gathered correctly, Mark B's astonishing pace in R2 was resultant of similar attitude adjustments.

Strange, but does no one bother to check their car is setup right before using it these days? I know Hamlet normally does.....

Would have thought both of them do/did, so given the other common denominator that both of them are in brand new cars, maybe there's something different on the 2011 cars, either that or a possibly a change in tyre compound?

Conditions during qualy might have meant that they weren't/didn't become aware that something wasn't quite right until R1 itself?

Hi all,

Qually was a definate lottery, thankfully made the right decision and went out on wets. Got my act together for the 2nd race and got a stormin start and finished P4, 3rd in class in the end. Not bad for a first radical race outing!!

It did surprise me how far off the pace alot were though? Cant wait for the next one now... UK cup at silverstone in just over a week.

I think its going to be a good season!!

Andy.

Good to see ROC's old car working for it's living - popped along to see you after R2, but you'd nipped off somewhere - signing autographs presumably. Can't have been a very long queue - so few spectators, hardly surprising when I couldn't find anything about it at all on Dony's Events Website on Friday night, nor MSV - weird/stupid or what?

Fine job ............. btw, doubt you'll find many off the pace in the UK at Silverstone weekend after next biglaugh

Thanks,

I agree I think the UK cup will be a total different kettle of fish!! I need to shed 55kgs from either me or the car as we weighed in at 730kgs!! I've already dropped 6kgs to a sprightly 101Kgs so been racking my brains to see where we can loose some weight.

Some great racing though and really enjoyed it. Roll on the next round

Blimey ................ three thoughts >

1) So that's where I hid the bullion
2) No wonder I struggled to get that on the RS3 on my lonesome
3) No more pies for you me lad

Is that a load of ballast hidden under the seat?
