Just wondering which size should be used, there seems to be a fair choice.

Most commonly seen in the paddock is the red 175 Amp version.
(about £6 on the Bay).

Some others use gray plugs and trim off the keying plasic to make them universal fit with red ones....

I have seen a few competitors using the smaller 50 amp plugs.

Thanks for your response, I had ordered 50amp ones on ebay but they haven't turned up so I'm going to order 175amp ones this time just to make sure.

The red ones are not fuel proof. If any gets in contact with fuel they melt and the terminals can easily touch. Always use gray plugs on racing cars

Not heard that before. There are a heck of a lot of people out there using them that way. Where does the info come from?

From me washing down a single seater gearbox with petrol and watching it melt, lucky for me it didn't go up. I have seen other mechanices refuse to use a fuel bowser becuase it had a red anderson plug. Don't be a Dingbat and use red anderson plugs.

Surely the colour of the plug denotes its specification ie amps and volts , I think they are all made of the same material .
Perhaps you are confusing these with Gerry Anderson plugs which I believe can fail after fuel contamination, but then rescue themselves straight away .

And washing a Hewland down with petrol ?
