I need to replace the waterproof 8 pin plug that connects the brake/headlight looms on my Prosport. Could anyone advise if they know of a supplier for both the male and female halves?

I have an open enquiry out with Radical but they don't currently stock them and are apparently awaiting a response from their original suppiers.

Hi Graham

To help our scratching around, connectors (not sure whether this is the male or female) as per on the body plate end of this? >

Reason for asking is that the connector on our Prosport's rear light harness is very different to this; ours is a circular push in and then turn lock ring, bit like a paddleshift connector.

You've poured through the zillions of parts on RS?

Hi there and thank you for the reply. I believe that photo is from the Radical spares site and shows the "female" part of the loom which essentially is for the rear lights. Whilst I don't run with the front lights, as currently configured it's still necessary to connect the rears to the rest of the loom for the brake lights to work. I'm shifting from endurance racing to shorter events this year so I'd quite like them to light up every now and then !!!

The Photo attached is showing the "male" end from my loom. It's an oblong as you can see which matches the female part on the Radical spares site. I've spoken to Simon there and as I mentioned before he's struggling to source a replacement from their supply chain. Was the circular push/lock ring fitting your own solution or a factory fit?

Yes trawled the RS site. Proved a bit of a dead end so far..

Is the view that any waterproof 8 pin plug will work on the loom or are there limitations/issues going this route?

Yep, brake lights would be a decent idea laugh

Ours was on the car when we bought it, so can't actually tell you, but I suspect it was not done by the factory/standard; that said it's very professionally done, very user friendly and handily small given ours is tucked up/connected under the rear edge of the front bodywork. I'd take you some photos which would be better than me trying to explain/describe, but unfortunately the car is a few miles up the road at the mo.

As long as the plug is suitable i.e. 8 way and waterproof (although to be fair on ours it's very well out of any direct rain/water), I don't think there is any issue at all in changing type; afterall, it's just a multiple in line connector at the end of the day; in fact that's the way I'd go; if Simon's struggling now, what's it going to be like in the future? I recollect that the rear connection on our SR3RS was a circular rubberised jobbie, pretty sure a Sureseal, maybe this? >

If I were you, I'd check out what Radical are using nowadays and go that way; as I guess they buy in their looms all made up, if they can't supply the loose connector parts, get the part number and then you could get them off RS and get a local auto electircian to fit them to your looms in situ - from what I can make out, there's a few special tools involved in putting the wires into the connectors? Still be a lot easier than de-looming it and sending it off somehwere! If you look at the Technical Reference stuff on that RS page, you'll see there are various brackets that are part of the Sureseal system which you could use to fix it to the front of the rear bodywork.

Hope this helps ............. we met briefly at Silverstone last year if you remember? Where something had played up very late in the race and you'd just had to pull up at that Speed Event?

Best Regards

Thanks for the detailed reply and the link to the sureseal fitting. I'll try RS.

To be fair to Simon I think he's suffering from the perrinial problem of appalling communication/ customer service that often dogs the industry. Apparently they are now expecting a delivery shortly.

I remember meeting you at Silverstone. Are you out this year at all?

There is no bike engined category in SPEED this year and no endurance alternatives so I'm having an easy year doing races to suit the calender rather than chasing championships.

All you need is a diy connector, male and female. The actual connector is not the problem its the crimping up of the pins/sockets...
I had a quick look on tinternet and came up iwth this. What I would do is go to my local auto electrics component supplier and take a copy of this. They will have something on their shelf. The other point is to ascertain how many of the pins you actually need to run only rain and rear/stop lights...

Ensure that you get a good earth though.....I adjusted the wiring on my old SR4 and every time I braked the headlights came on....

Sounds to me like a canny mature racer disguising a cunning racing wheeze by claiming it's down to a lack of ability in auto electric skills department rofl

Welcome Graham.

Hopefully I shall be dicking around as usual at the odd trackday and Will will be making his circuit racing debut, if, as and when I stop changing (i.e. moving back) the (his) schedule.

Hope to see you somewhere, sometime ........ today (here at least) the sun is shining bright and the hunger/impatience for getting back in the important seat of a Radical just asap becomes evermore irresistable/compelling.

New fitting has just arrived via Simon at Radical which saves me hunting around any more.

Thanks to all concerned for your help.
