Curborough under threat again!
Discussion
Having just been informed that the Curborough Consortium have withdrawn their plan to build 5,000 houses on the site, a new threat has emerged.
Having lost out on the profits from the abandoned development plan, the landowner now seems to be actively promoting "The New Village option" - http://www.newvillageoption.co.uk/ .
At first glance this looks pretty inocuous but click on the link on the left for "New Village Option" (the link embedded in the text doesn't work) and you will go here: http://www.newvillageoption.co.uk/node/20 and see that the initiative builds houses right on the Curborough site.
The New Village initiative is actively trying to persuade residents to lobby the council to include the new village in the councils own plans www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/bigplanningdebate.
This is a new threat and very real, if this goes ahead another affordable motorsport venue for real people will be lost forever. The really worrying thing which I heard is that SDCC's lease prevents the Club from opposing this development, so it is up to us; the Club cannot act against the landowner's interests! We have until the 28th to express a different view from the landowner, if you want to save this grassroots venue please email developmentplans@lichfielddc.gov.uk
If it helps, you can use wording like this:
"Dear sir
I object to the inclusion in the Councils Development Plans of the "New Village Option" which concentrates development on the land south of Wood End Lane. Such a development would cause the loss of a unique motorsport facility of community, regional and national importance.
I favour the Council's existing settlement hierarchy
Yours sincerely"
Please, get writing now and let us know here when you do and, just so there's no favouritism re Uphill Racers, I'll even think about giving you a kiss when I see you.....................

Well, the consultation has closed.
A big THANK YOU from all the Curby folk to all who sent their objections to the Council.
LDC now need to finalise their plans but local gossip suggests that their thinking could well be favourable to sprinting. I even hear a rumour that Curborough is named in the draft plans as "an important sporting facility".
It just goes to show the power of public opinion.
It doesn't mean that we can be complacent. But, as the man said when he jumped off the Empire State "so far, so good".
Semper vigilandum.
