What do you guys think of this Championship? Is anyone plannng to enter? Would anyone like to dicuss the merits, or otherwise, on this forum?

Simon

Ps Mr Moderator - Your rule about advertising on forums seems somewhat hypocritical when at the top of most forum lists there are adverts, so much for one rule for all eh?

I've just got hold of last years regs so I plan to have a read and may have a stab at an event or two. Perhaps.

Notwithstanding that as an overall Championship it's about 10% more than Bikesports as an overall Championship (most of which seems to emanate from a strangely high comparative price at Snett), looks pretty darn good to me.

I was particularly interested (I could easily have typed impressed) by the strong words which have since disappeared about 'closely monitored/high driving standards'. No naming on shaming on here prevents further (much needed) amplification as to why this is (or should be) of interest to previous and future potential competitors. To my mind, this makes it if not all but impossible, virtually meaningless trying to discuss much of the really important detail of this on here for every Tom, Dick or Harry to look at.

I spoke to several racers @ AI about what they were or weren't/might or might not be doing Series-wise and most if not all were favourably disposed in principle towards OSS, with one very significant exception; with the sole exception of Oulton (?), the format of two races being split across two days, whereupon one inevitably envisages/rehearses the worse case scenario of an early race on the Saturday and a late race on the Sunday. Radical and 750MC have both apparently cottoned onto this as negative relative to attracting potential Customers (I surmise whilst there were two last year, this is why there are no Club Cup Double Headers this year?), but apparently BRSCC/OSS haven't?; like it or not, from what I heard said that could put quite a lot of potential OSS Customers off. With faraway (for a lot) circuits like Snett & Anglesey (and momentarily ignoring the potential coshing from SWMBO), a lot could be thinking "going to have to take a day's holiday/pull a sickie/hope no-one spots me dropping off at my post on Monday?" Or as likely, "just can't do that"?

On a more general note, I'd also like to see all Race Series Organisers being more transparent/clearer with a few things: when someone says for example "Brands Hatch", "Silverstone" and (shortly) "Snetterton", what circuit layout are we talking about?; are there any other associated compulsory costs (inevitably the answer is yes) and what are they? For example in the case of OSS, BRSCC Membership?, the Championship Regsitration Fee?; also what fees are or are not subject to the now gargantuan 20%VAT, because a lot of privateers can't reclaim it, so gross to be paid out of tax paid is what matters/needs to be known.

Would this sort of stuff be better discussed/aired on ROC where not every Tom, Dick or Harry can see it? We can also more accurately identify which idiot in which series? .............. everyone seems to mention exactly the same names, volume only dependent on the size of the repair bill/degree of lunacy/incompetence displayed?

The reason Alan is being so cryptic is that the facicst moderators pulled his original post about the OSS Championship as they said it was advertising - hence my comment about all the crap at the head of most of the forum lists. Seems a post about something useful (and in this case non profit making) is not allowed unless you are prepared to pay to post it, theres a lot of it about - so much for free speech eh?

Simon

And whist I am having a rant... WTF has this got to do with anything?

I'm 100% for maximum choice and maximum value for privateer guys 'n gals with Radicals (old and new) who want to go racing who aren't sitting around @ Goldman Sachs with a smile on their face awaiting details of their next rather interesting bonus!

Realised that Simon, which is why I was being cryptic with Alan. I think he'll have twigged that wink

Aside from exercising my right to free speech actually it was a cryptic way of saying I think this is what the OSS is about
