The tempremental nature is far more likely to be in the wiring, the loom connectors are particularly prone to intermitant problems.

Thanks for the reply. Already played with the connector at the back of the dash, sprayed it with wd 40 etc....what's your solution...

Agreed.

I had this on my dash it was the white connector block(s) in the loom, the terminals tend to get corroded - I replaced with a different style connector and it has been spot on ever since.

Dunc.

Same here - a good winter project is to go through the wiring paying particular attention to all connectors and replace - upgrade as appropriate - the original OEM connectors are lacking when you considering the vibration in these cars.

The basic problem with all wiring ( any car ) is that the connector, no matter how small or light acts as a pendulum on the wiring and over a long period can break down the wires strand by strand. Unless the wire is completely broken then its hard to detect or gives an intermittent fault on the instrument/component. Ideally the connector should be tie wrapped to something solid and also the wiring be restrained correctly but with a bit of slack near the connector ( but not enough to recreate the pendulum effect )
Furthermore newer type wiring is going more to thin wall insulation ( to save weight ! )so means the strain is going straight onto the wire strands. Also most wiring is installed only to do the job its required to do, and therefore is not thicker ( and hence stronger )than need be.
Add to that racing conditions and the problems ( generally irregular ) start to show.
Lecture over.........!!

If that doesn't work I've got one kicking around somewhere that I don't need. Just PM me.
