SR4 High Downforce/Low Downforce
Discussion
Hi all, i am currently looking at purchasing an SR4.
It has the Bi-plane rear wing and rear diffuser on but other than that its in LD spec. Can I use the current front body work and fit the HD front diffuser and dive planes?
Other than that what are the differences?
Thanks in advance
Kyle

Yes you can, but together with the various HD appendages like stays and a different diffuser, it involves a bit (25mm from memory) being cut off the whole of the leading edge of the existing front bodywork; ideally that's a job done by Radical themselves and when we got a quote from them for doing the whole caboodle, it wasn't half so charging rhino as we thought it might be.
To all intents and purposes, that's it in terms of getting HD; the side pod venting has evolved over the years, but I doubt that had much effect on the downforce: The benefit of dive planes seems to be a matter of some debate; compared to the difference between a LD and HD SR4, they don't make that much difference overall in terms of downforce generation (a bit quicker through the corners but quite a bit slower down the straights) and many regard them as surplus to requirements except in the wet.
Having been compelled to run SR4s without any up in the air wing at all via certain regs at the time JW & DS are as expert as it gets in terms of what's best to do aero-wise to an SR4, so perhaps, they'll look in and input.
Hope to see you in a Rad soon!

Thanks for the info guys.
I spoke to Radical and for the HD up grade is well over a grand. Darcy when you converted your car did you use all of the following?
Shorter Dampers
Front Diffuser Black HD
Fr Diffuser Wear Strip Centre
Fr Diffuser Wear Strip Corner
Nose Retaining Strip
Front Body Pin Bracket
Nose Retaining Detent Pin
Fr Diffuser Stay 06 Lower
Front Diffuser Stay 06 Upper
Front HD Diffuser Bracket LH
Front Diffuser Black HD
Fr Diffuser Wear Strip Centre
Fr Diffuser Wear Strip Corner
Nose Retaining Strip
I remember looking around your car at Combe (I race in the FF1600 Championship). Originally I had planned to get a Nemesis like you replaced the Sr4 with but cant find one for sale anywhere!
Regards

Hi
That looks like the list of parts that went into my old car.
The bonnet gets a mod as well
I think it makes a big enough difference to make it worthwhile.
The SR4 is a great car,I think it is a little under developed, but very capable.
Mine was 1440 tuned, and could lap Combe in the 6,s
You only need to be in the consistent 5,s to win the championship!!
With regards to the Nemesis, they are a rare beast,we think only 11 or so were made.
Mine has had a big rebuild this year and is probably the nicest example
I will try and get Josh to post a picture here later
Regards
Darcy

Hi Darcy, that's surprisingly light. Makes you wonder how they make a PR6 so heavy with the tiny little bike engine/gearbox combo that's got to be what 80 odd kg lighter than the VX & Hewland package!
JP don't forget racers excuse no.104 "well I was running in my new brake pads carefully at the time"!!

Darren,
Back in the day, these Supersport cars were big money
The rear wing and support is pre-preg carbon
The bespoke wheels and suspension are all the lightest magnesium alloy
The rear of the car has no chassis-its all hung off the gear casing
The previous owner has data to prove that it would take Church at Thruxton, flat out at over 160mph!!
I just wish I could change gear properly in it!!

Hopefully Kyle got to hear enough about SR4 downforce ............ like that N a lot, proper air intake thingy ............ my only worry is that this is spookily reminiscent of a thread about another 'not a Radical' black car several weeks ago ........... no worries as long as you can confirm that Dad definitely doesn't use fake tan Josh
