I thought a little report on my new car might be of interest
It is the ex-White car, carbon body, paddles, and most options including a shed-load of data sensors (though only single adjustable dampers).
I did the deal with Jamie at Radical over the phone when I was on holiday in Italy, and Radical brought the car out to Spa for me to do a 2-day track day at the start of August. Radical sent Woody, one of their long time engineers and I have to say one of the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and helpful guys I have ever met. This was to prove most fortunate because we had a lot of problems at Spa, the paddle shift kept finding neutral going from 3rd to 4th and 5th to 6th. Woody tried everything, sent data to Powertech, you name it he tried it. In the end, everybody thought it was due to damage in the gearbox itself so Radical sent out a new engine overnight, it arrived at the circuit at 5am, and Woody changed the new engine in time for me to be out around 10am on the second day of running. Sadly, it didn't cure the problem, but luckily the new engine came with the parts required to fit the manual stick shift so at least I got half a day running.
And what a car - in no time at all, on worn slicks and 2-up I was doing an easy flat in 6th through Eau Rouge, exiting Radillon around 135mph, flat in sixth through Blanchimont, and flat all the way around Pouhon from turn in after only a short dab on the brakes. They've really done a lot with the aero. It was awesome
Radical took the car back to Peterborough and diagnosed an ECU fault. This last weekend Woody brought the car to a 2-day trackday at Bresse for me to shake it down prior to it coming to Switzerland. It worked perfectly. The whole experience has ended on a good note: the factory acted very much in a fix-it-at-all-costs manner, and Woody looked after me superbly.
The RS's chassis feels stiffer, the car responds much more obviously to changes in tyre pressures and damper settings (I thought my old car, chassis number 50 something, wasn't that responsive). I have the larger brakes and they are excellent, way more stopping power than tyres have grip. Can't wait to take it to a more interesting circuit - Hockenheim next month, perhaps Spa in November if I'm brave. Lining up places like Mugello next year too, as well as the usual suspects Dijon etc.
I'll post some pics shortly.
