I want to fit a gear indicator to my Clubsport ZR1100. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should use?

I don't think it's been very successfully done. You can only use the revs/speed type ones which are pretty unreliable apparently. Worth a search here. I looked at a couple of options (which I can't remember now), but concluded it wasn't worth the effort.

Yep, I also recollect it was not easy to sort - something like the default Geartronics one was only compatible with the Busa engine? That said, might be dreaming but I think Geoff W had one on his recently departed Clubbie? If so, not sure whether it came with it or he fitted it (or whether it was any good). Let's see what he says when he next drops by.

Expensive, but you could use an ETB DigiDash which is a great replacement for the Radical dash. We had one in the SR4 which worked great and calculates reliably from wheel speed, revs etc.

Thanks for the replies -it's as I thought, there is no easy way. I tried fitting one to a previous car (measured revs and speed) but I never got it to work properly. I'll go on guessing.

We've got the ETB Dash (well, steering wheel) on the Speads and I like the whole system, a lot.

If, like us, you mount the speed sensor magnets near the brake disc you will find that the magnets are forever getting wiped off or are losing their magnetism due to the heat and you will, like us, curse the system for being crap. However, now we've mounted the magnets of the Diff casing, it's one hundred percent reliable and servicable.

Obviously, it's not as good as a Geartronics system - which is driven by a rotary pot on the barrel - but this is pretty difficult to arrange on an R1, so we're generally happy with what we've got and the occasional slight 'lag' and not being able to tell what gear we're in when stationary isn't too much of a trial.

All the AIM MXL dashes also do this. Never had a problem with the magnetic pickup off the front wheel hub carrier.

Hello, Now I am using GIpro-X WSS for my SR4. It is the revs/speed type one but reliable, accurate & inexpensive.

Hello Steponit

Why do you use the wheel speed sensor, instead of picking up from the digital speed indicator?

It came on the car - generally worked well and in some respects I'm annoyed I let it go with the car - basis was a digital counter which received inputs from one of two micro switches which were activated from the forward or backwards movement of the gear lever.

It also had provision of a reset button which would toggle the readout between 1 - 6 - 1 so that you could synch with either 1st or 6th if it ever "lost count".

Colin W is your man - he drops in from time to time.....

Hello, dptdpt.
When this SR4 came from UK, it had ZZR1200 w/Farringdon digi steering wheel w/data logger .
Last winter I changed the steering wheel to standard round shape one & zzr1200 engine to 2008 Hayabusa .
The reasons are:
1, Digi steering wheel is work great but very slow gear position indication.
2, i need round shape steering wheel for my purpose = Japans Solo event.
3, Hayabusa simplified bike wiring looms are not fit to Farringdon.
4, Needs more power & torque to compete with Suzuki Formula Hayabusa.

I changed Farringdon wheel speed sensor to GIpro-X WSS digital speed sensor also.

Hi, The gear indicator as described by Geoff is indeed a counter. I had it made by Circuit Innovations in York (google search). I found it effective during my ownership of the clubsport.

Colin.

Thanks CDW and SL7. I've emailed Circuit Inovations, and we'll see what transpires

Contacted the very helpful Circuit Innovations and placed an order. We will see how it works out.

I was thinking of adding a circuit innovations set-up to my SR4 - out of interest can you please advise how much they are charging now.

SL7, £55 to include plug in to the Flatshifter Expert box of tricks, so it can pick up changes from the pressure switch in the linkage. Downside is that it will be 100mm x 50 x 25, so it is a bit on the large side, but at least I should be able to see the numbers.
Co-incidentally, I see from your postings that you have an R400 - as I did until last week when I sold it - (have we met at Snetterton on one of OBNS's track days?) and that you changed from a Culbsport to a SR4. How does the SR4 compare with the Clubsport?
