SR3 1500 2nd Gear failures
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I've had two engine/gearbox units fail now with 2nd gear issues. The first shattered the selection rod when selecting 2nd gear, the last one, yesterday, had it jumping the drive in 2nd gear and got worse to the point where I was shifting 1st to 3rd as accelerating in 2nd was a no go.
I understand that 2nd gear failures are common on uprated Hyabusas running more than 200hp. Is there a solution for this issue i.e uprated drive gears etc.
Has anyone else had this problem as well?
Andy.

Does your SR3 have the optional gearbox oil cooler?
what gearbox cooler?i have a diff cooler, engine oil cooler, water radiator.... no gearbox cooler.
i have had my 1500 for 3 1/2 years now with no faults on the gear box.
it it when flat shifting up the box or are you using the clutch?

Hi Guys,
Yep to clarify it has an engine oil cooler and drive unit cooler.
Done quite a bit more research on this and apparently over 200HP units in car applications do get the dogs wearing and then they start jumping out of gear and back in as the selectors try to re-engage. Apparantly Nova transmissions do an upgrade and undercut the gears to minimise this problem. Powertech reckons there is no issue with the standard gearbox but only rates them for 30hrs use!
I don't use the clutch on upshifting just a slight lift on the throttle, but always on the downshift.
Thanks
Andy.
