Oil Change Intervals for 1500CC SR#
Discussion
Over here, in the Quaife Cup the max (double header) race time involves 4 races of approx 20 mins duration each plus practice and qualifying, so say that's about two and a half or so hours, say three; normally, it would be more like two hours i.e. 2 X 20 mins plus P & Q.
Many privateers therefore change their engine oil (and filter de rigeur as a part of that) on a per event basis, but with none double headers, some will do it every two Events, especially if they tend to prefer put in a quick Q one pronto and then go relax. Gear oil every two or three events on an SR3 from what I hear.
Given the huge amount that the boffins @ Silkolene etc spend on making sure their oils are up to it in all areas of performance including full bore durability, the above is of course very belts and braces, but of course understandable when one compares the cost of a few litres of oil and the cost of a motor going AWOL because of a bit of swarf that might otherwise have been flushed out by an oil change.

As a privateeer and knobber technician I change oil and filter every other weekend of racing when there are the standard track day, qualy, 2 x20 mins.
Definitely before the upcoming double header. My view is an oil and filter change is cheap high quality maintenance, and if that adds up to one or two extra changes over a season ( compared to the appropriate schedule ) then so what....its "pennies" compared to engine damage...
