just watched the rockingham race on the TV and i thought it was excellent. It was good to see the PR6s and the sr3s mixing it together rather than floundering at the back of a pack off uber engined 1875.3cc PR6s

1340 PR6s 1500 sr3s a few club and prosport to mix it up a bit, close entertaining racing well i hate to say it but................

I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!

It's looking like a sensible close mix between the different car type's, no one's quite sure which is going to be fastest as yet!

The only slight anomaly to my eye's being the lack of a point's bonus for whoever achieves the overall win (in an eligible car) so for instance in a situation where you are in the lead of your class but behind another class of car there is no point in risking an overtake, other than for own personal satisfaction!

I concur with there being an anomaly (in need of refinement/address at some point whenever Radical are able) >

As Darren says, it's clear that a 1340 in a PR6 and a 1475 in an SR3 has comprehensively levelled them up, many thinking that the PR6 perhaps has a slight edge in the dry, the SR3 perhaps a slight edge in the damp .... emphasis on the word slight .... I recollect that roughly half of the events in last year's CC were dry and half were damp, so we'll see.

That said, let's look at Rockingham, same top three finishing order in both races i.e. 1st: Darren (PR6), 2nd: Jonathan (PR6) and 3rd: Colin (SR3). Resultant Current Points Standing (excluding Invitation Class)? 1st: Colin 44 points, 2nd: Darren: 42 points, 4th: Jonathan 31 points; Jonathan was on Pole.

Luckily, we have three straight down the line out & out racers there, frankly three stand-up guys who would go for the win even if they finshed up with minus points! That said, I'm sure that all three would regard themselves as racing against each other in pretty equal if sometimes slightly different machinery and I suspect that none of them will feel 100% comfortable reading the Current Standings. If I were Darren, I'd simply be thinking I won both races therefore I should be leading the Championship. If I were Colin, I'd be wondering how I am with two 3rd places and if I were Jonathan, I'd be thinking why have I got about 70% of the points Colin has when firstly, I got pole, secondly, I had to work hard and managed to keep him behind me in both races and thirdly thinking (rueing) so 2(nd) + 2 (nd) does indeed equal 4(th).

Doesn't seem quite right; I'm inclined to think that there should be some clear reward for actually winning / getting on the 'overall' podium, perhaps something like +3 for the win, +2 for 2nd and +1 for 3rd ......... and there's only ever been one Pole to my mind ...... the guy or girl sitting in Grid Space No1, irrespective of what Class of car he/she drives, Invitation Class included.

All that said (and meant) for me as one of the Spectating Fan Club, it was totally bloody brilliant, the usual supremely high standard that we have come to expect of the Good Folks @ Peterborough and from you Guys N Gals piloting them.

Thanks! woohoo

Thats job done then a 1500 sr3 is evenly matched with 1340 pr6. make all of those one class and do away with the points anomally issue in one stroke. Then put all others, prosports SR4 club sports etc into another class. ban anything that dosent meet the above and you will have a fantastic close race stable race series with sensible costs.

Just like i said last year, I thank you.......i am available for weddings, private parties and barmitzvas. whistle

That makes a lot of sense, if in need of some serious refinement.

Obviously you meant 1299 Prosports relative to versus SR4s.

That would probably be the final nail for the Clubbies and I for one would very much regret that as that's the vital first step for a lot of Radical Racing newbies and that really matters.

Likewise (whilst it causes no problems and it certainly didn't appear to do so at Rockingham) I would hugely regret the disappearance of the already small Tuned Class. Their owners have taken all these changes in an apparently generally far calmer way than I would have done if I'd have laid out mega-bucks for big engines and to boot, they now have the unenviable task of proving they can apply their extra against some top notch boys 'n gals in lower powered motors. Hats off to the likes of Mr T, FOB, Steve L & Chris B who plough their own furrow and lay out their hard earned in pursuit of same, notwithstanding that they don't qualify for the Quaife Cup. IMHO, The World of Radical Racing would be much the poorer without them. If they pole it or win/finish it, it should be points not able to be won as far as those who do qualify for the QC are concerned.

My view is that the issue is solely 1340 PR6 V 1500 SR3; it certainly ain't broke, a million miles from it, it could simply do with a good final polish.

And let's not forget the minor matter of Regs accepted by the MSA and that changing any rules/arrangements 'whilst in flow' is never to be sneezed at; for sure, someone, somwhere will get the axxe.

I've heard a rumor those new SR3 RS's are a bit useful in the wet, so I've already bagsied Trev & Will's for first time the heavens open, otherwise he would be out there with us!

Don't tell Barry, but I will be entering as soon as there is a specfic QC Class called "Veteran Driving a Black SR3 with Yellow & Titanium Decals", whereupon I shall hope to finish not last and walk away with the Championship after about the third event.

Upon further reflection, the separate Class Structure for PR6s & SR3s is just fine ....... the pace you'd immediately extract from the self same little beauty would make my abysmal efforts look even dafter.

The Clubsports are on their way to extinction anyways. Radical only make and sell SR4 bits now, so give it enough time and they'll all morph into SR4s (Johnny Cash stylee). biggrin

JW gave Darren a passenger ride at Snett in ours; did we get a photo, if not why not?

If he continues to be a very good boy (and stops calling trackdays boring - everything must seem boring after things like a 110mph lap of Mallory), we'll be more than happy to let him return the favour, to Jonathan or indeed me or indeed, solo.

Only ever driven a PR6 from the Radical stable & I'd best not have a go in an SR3RS for the simple reason I would probably end up wanting one.....

The prospect of taking some of my mate's / the old man / the Mr's for a good old terrifying run out on track really appeals, but other than that I am pretty happy with my slightly unstable PR6 at the moment!
