Does anyone know why there are two different types of front sprocket?

One is offset and the other is plain, my clubsport has the offset one which then has the reverse motor adapter on it. If the offset one is just for the reverse motor which I don't use I'd prefer to just fit the plain one and not refit the adapter.

Offset/cupped :-

Plain :-

I believe that there are two different length output shafts. The longer output shafts need the offset version, the shorter ones have the plain version.

Unfortunately I don't think the splines are long enough on the long output shaft to move the whole sprocket inboard (with the correct length spacer), I wanted to fit flat sprockets on my 1200 (to use the wider range of sprockets available)but found that I couldn't for this very reason. The output shaft lengths of my ZZR1100 and 1200s are the same, I have another older 1100 for spares and that has a shorter output shaft.

I hope this makes sense.

I think Radical is the only place for the offset one unfortunately. The bike normally has a plain one, I think the later ZZR1100 bikes had the rear sprocket a bit further out than the earlier ones.

Does anyone else know different?

Standard Kawasaki dealer part, you just need to know the age / type of the engine.

"C" spec ZZR1100's used the offset sprocket
"D" spec used the plain sprocket.
A range of sizes are available for the plain sprockets but if you need a smaller than stock offset sprocket (i.e. 15 tooth) then Radical is probably your best bet.

Just found one of my old posts
The 'C' model uses an inset sprocket JTF528 or Renthal 396-530-nn
The 'D' model uses a flat sprocket Renthal 313-530-nn

Cheers Martin,

It looks like 17 tooth is the standard for the bike and 15 tooth is more common for clubsports (and what I'm after) then.

I think that one is a 16 tooth sprocket. I don't think you can get an offset one in 17 tooth (which is the one I want), I ran a 16 tooth front sprocket on mine (with either 47 or 48 tooth rear sprocket) at Combe, depends upon how fast you need to go!

Everyone sells the 17T inset one Martin, I've phoned several places and they say they can only get it in 17T.

Here's a few,

http://www.kawasakimotorcyclespares.co.uk/spares/p...

http://www.mcspares.co.uk/80.html (no.11 for inset)

http://www.3prime-store.com/ID0000002483_528-17_Fr...

Or any local motorbike shop. Struggling to find the 15T though, looks like I'll have to goto Radical for this one.

Ok it looks like I got that wrong as well!! Seems to be becoming a habit at the moment.

I ordered what I thought was going to be a 16 tooth sprocket and yesterday it turned out to be a 17 tooth one smile

If you want my old 15 tooth one drop me an email, I shouldn't need it again.

Martin

(Don't suppose you have come across any 18 teeth ones?hehe)

Have been on the ZZR1100 owners forum looking for a cog and it seems that my front sprocket is on the opposite way to how it should be fitted to a ZZR1100 road bike (as per that forum and also the ZZR workshop manual).

So is it supposed to be this way and if so I'm a bit confused by the straight cog as surely this would be pushed out too far, the D-type (newer) engines have a longer output shaft than the early ones. On the bikes the offset cog is used to compensate for the shorter output shaft which later became a longer output shaft using the straight cogs.

Any help appreciated.
