Choice of Trailer for a Clubsport
Discussion
Am looking to replace my existing Woodford trailer (which is a bit too short for the Clubsport) with something more suitable.
Looking at the Brain James Clubman range brianjames.co.uk/downloads/BJT09_Clubman_Price_List.pdf), the single-axle Clubman 1000 S (product code CM9-T-012), with a 13' x 5'7" bed looks good size-wise and with a 980kg payload capability, is more than enough for 600kg of Clubsport, tyres and tools. What I'm not sure about is how well balanced it would be - I'm thinking I'd load the car arse-end first and have the low level tyre rack and storage box on the A-frame. Anyone care to suggest what nose weight I'd get with this configuration?
Unfortunately, the bed size of BJ’s light-weight twin-axle option, Clubman 1000 (product code CM9-T-020), is just too small for the Clubsport (11' x 5'5")
The alternative would be the twin-axle version, Clubman 1350 (product code CM9-T-040). This has the right bed size but a whopping 1350kg payload, which, for a Clubsport, seems like a sledge hammer to crack a wallnut. Thoughts?
Any other thoughts on what makes a good Clubsport trailer?

Does this mean there is a risk of you coming racing this year, Laurence?!
What's the length problem with what you've got (so to speak)?
Brian James have renamed their range these days, but my CS fitted just nicely on a Minno; two inches clearanace either side, and spot on length wise; A great little solution; my garage doors are very narrow so it's the width that limited me to a Minno.
Don't know about nose weight but it's always been rock solid at a variety (!) of speeds.

I think you and Andy H have bludgeoned me into submission Mark, so yes, there is every risk of coming racing this year (Thanks for all the info last week btw). I won't start until later in the year, due to work commitments, but If I can get into the Quaife Club Cup as a late entrant, then I'll go for that, otherwise Bikesports. What's the length problem with what you've got (so to speak)?

Back on topic, the bed length on my Woodford trailer is only 11' long which means the nose of the car overhangs the back end of the trailer by about 15" - not really a problem until the guy behind doesn't stop when I do (see earlier comment vis-a-vis cost of bodywork!). So really, the Clubsport needs a trailer with a 13' bed length.
Good point about being able to get the trailer into a garage. I measured my car today at 5'1" wide, so a 5'5" bed width would be ideal. That means an overall trailer width of about 6'9", e.g. Brian James Clubman 010 and 020 models, which would fit neatly into the standard garage door opening. The problem is these models only have an 11' bed length.
My prefered solution would be a light-weight twin-axle trailer with a 13' x 5'5" bed. Brian James' Clubman 020 model ticks all the boxes except the bed length.
I don't want everything perfect - I just want what I want!

I have a Fountain Double axle, canvas covered which I bought 2 years ago for my SR4 then Pr06. I'm collecting from Mansol Motorsport sometime soon, so can measure the bed then if it's of interest.
... Hmmmm, just been on the Fountain Trailers webby and they do a light-weight, twin-axle jobby with an 885kg payload capacity and a 13' x 5'5" bed - spot on for a Clubsport! What to do?Gassing Station | Radical | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
