Friday was an aero test only so, in order to to get some decent data plots from suspension movement, we ran 90lb front springs and 125lb rear springs (normally 350 and 500 respectively) which made the car completely un-driveable and – combined with the rain, gusting winds and gear selection problems – it would have been a pretty miserable day had it not been for the jolly lovely wing and all that lovely downforce and data.
From what we can work out, at this stage (and for what it’s worth) – with the splitter fully extended; the wing flap at its minimum downforce setting; no dive planes; and at optimum ride height and rake - we have quite a lot more than doubled the downforce of the standard RS06 Speads for a zero drag penalty. This is proper, balanced, usable downforce.
For anyone who’s interested, the data from Run C looks like this:
Red Trace = Speed.
Light Green Trace = Front Suspension Potentiometer Volts x 10.
Dark Green Trace = Rear Suspension Potentiometer Volts x 100.
