Would this bloke have got hit less hard if he'd have been an East European Lorry Driver, half asleep, texting and running into the back of a queue causing multiple fatalities? >

The problem with riding a superbike on the road is that to hit 166mph is the matter of about 10 seconds with the throttle wide open.....Its just as well the government don't understand the true performance of a 1000cc bike or I recon they would ban them in an instant!

agree... 170mph on a modern superbike is easy and doesn't 'feel' fast... until something happens banghead

Like Rob said, I was really alluding to the inconsistency, without in any way condoning said rider; it's true that a modern superbike is phenomenally accelerative (way more than even most Radicalers will ever have experienced), but ............

Launched correctly (as the BBBs amongst us will confirm, that's easier said than done), something like a Hayabusa can do 0 - 140mph in about 10 seconds; that said, it despatches the initial 0 - 100mph in about 6 seconds or a bit more; in other words, 'barn door factor' kicking in, the 40mph of 100 to 140 takes roughly two-thirds as long as the first 100mph. So if say said rider was initially 'ambling along' at 70mph, it takes a very deliberate and relatively lengthy effort to add on near enough another 100mph. In other words, he certainly didn't creep upto to not far off 170mph without noticing/by mistake.

In any event, unusually big balls for a hairdresser?

Trev, more like 0-100 kph in 3 secs. 0-100mph takes around 5.5 secs, even on a busa. The top litre sportsbikes currently doing the 100mph dash in around 6.5 secs.

I guess it depends whether the defendant is sentenced for speeding or dangerous driving? IIRC speeding over a certain threshold automatically becomes DD?
