Apparently daft stuff like >

Competition Car Log Book upto date?

Belts still within expiry date?

MSA Sticker on bash hat.

There'll be others that'll get posted up

And good luck to you Marshy.

Good luck to you Marshy, nothing like it. Two things will stay with you forever as the biggest buzz in your life: barreling into the first few corners in a pack of cars and fighting wheel to wheel with individual cars at full tilt when the pack spreads out. You were quick at ROC so should have no problems on the day.

As for the actual question:

1. As Splitpin mentioned it the helmet sticker is bought at scrutineering so have a couple of quid on you for that.

2. Get your extinguisher refilled by Lanan, google Lanan Racing for address. Two release pulls if you haven't already got them, one in and one out of the cockpit.

3. Stickers for car - master switch, electrics, novice plate, numbers. You should get your race number when you enter.

4. Check both the blue book and your series regulations as there may be extra things you need to do in either. For example blue book states you need either a central rain light or two equally spaced about the centre line of the car, 750MC regs insist on a certain MSA spec of rain light positioned according to the blue book. There's a difference although it's not all that clear at first reading.

5. I found qualifying harder to get your head round than the race, it's over too quickly particularly if you get red flagged and it's hard to get in a rythm with other cars about. I guess this applies even more to a short Brands Indy and with potentially slower and faster cars in MSVR compared to a bunch of Radicals.

6. Obvious really but get as much preparation as you can done before the day, things like over inflating all the tyres (including spares and wets) at home and then dropping them on the day rather than having to get the compressor out, go round the car, repeat if it rains etc. Lube the chain the night before, etc. If you can roll it off the trailer straight into scrutineering then you'll be much better prepared than if you are messing round, particularly if you are by yourself. Get a mate involved if you can, Splitpin loves helping out...

7. Couple of tasty grid girls and you're away.

Have fun and don't forget to post how you got on here once you are done. Best of luck.

Nick

Little sticker they give you at first scrutineering to show it has been approved by a scrute. Costs you £1.50 or £2.00. That will be the least you spend on any one racing component...

You don't need a fuel sampler.
As others have said.
Race suit
Lid must have the snell sticker inside with either SA2000 or SA2005 on it
Belts and Extinguisher in date
And as you have a radical it is a race ready racing car.

Good point well made! If you're not connecting it to the vehicle electrics, make sure there is enough juice in the battery. I've been caught out on this once (in qually luckily) whistle

"I did a 46 round brands indy"
"Of course you did....."

hehe

Hi Marshy - good luck for Brands.

One small (and boring) thing that I forgot for my first race was a photograph to go on the licence
upgrade card in the Blue Book. They wouldn't give me a signature without a photo!

Might see you at Bands if I get my gearbox sorted and the engine back in

Tim

should be tranx260 Marshy - just check the light (green) is on when you have the ignition turned on - assuming it is a wired in transponder - most are.. in the unlikely event its a rechargeable one it will be on a bracket with R clip through the top.

If you can get the number off the unit and register it with your race number, it will probably save you a trip to the timekeepers office to sort out the unallocated timing signal after qually!

Hi Marshy
you have got a RACE licence haven't you?
On the day you will have to attend a new drivers briefing - DO NOT miss it....or else...
Process will be...
sign on, ( get scrutineer slip )( go as early as you can) it may be in the control tower which is quite a walk so allow the time for this..
scrutineer - get slip signed and get given a race "card"
Ensure race card is taped or secure in car as it will be inspected...
Ensure pin is OUT of extinguisher ( often checked at end of race and if still in can be fined )
If you've got some help they can get the car scrutineered whilst you go to a briefing..
attend the briefing BEFORE going out on track ( this is v strictly policed )
sunglasses ? or specs if you need them ? If weather is changeable use clear visor with sunglasses..if it changes qucikly you can alwasy take off the sunglasses but you can't alwasy change a dark visor..
Earplugs...with some spares in your overalls pocket ( you always lose one )
What revs do you need to get off the line?
Be ready early for qualifying they will not wait and time is ticking
You must do minimum mandatory 3 laps.....do not go balls out until you have done them...
Transponder - is it working ( mentioned above ) whats the serial number on it ? You will need to register the serial number with the timekeepers so that they connect the transponder/times with YOU...
If you have a timimg device(s) on the car is the car "sender" pointing the right way ( to your right at brands )..
New set of pants....
and ENJOY IT !
