Having re-fitted the chassis bracket and the reverse motor back into the car
I have managed to get it turning (and working) by testing with 12v directly to the
terminals on the reverse motor.

I have also re-fitted the reverse control box in the left hand pod but when I fit the
red/black cables from the main loom onto the terminals of the motor - no joy!

I have no history on the reverse motor control box - it came in a box of bits
with the car - does anyone know if these have a history of breaking?

I seem to remember someone saying that "if you spin the car the reverse
motor engages and spins the motor the wrong way which in turn blows
the relay"?

if you spin the car and dont press the clutch quickly the starter motor gets spun backwards not the reverse

As does the engine presumably?

Tim,
Have you traced the cable's all the way back through the box upto the switch, if the loom is anything like mine they could have been cut or modified? especially if the reverse had been removed... I have a spare control box with a plug on it if you get stuck..

If you take the top off the box you could check the relay operation etc

Hi Scott

I have checked the loom back to the switch - the loom all looks intact
and there are no visible breaks where wires could be cut or terminated.

What should I be looking for (or testing) in the control box ? The electronics
look way beyond my limited electrical knowledge!!

Hi Tim,
From memory the relay is the type where you can remove the outer cover (carefully) and then you should be able to see it move when power is applied when you push the reverse switch?

Another thing worth checking is measure the voltage accross the motor terminals when the switch is pressed, it maybe that some power is getting to the motor, but not enough to make it move... now I know that may sound odd but the control box is there (so I am told by Radical) to bring the motor in slowly, I assume it must do this by ramping up the voltage?

Also are you trying with the car running, apparently they motors are useless just off the battery and need the extra juice of the alternator?

Anyway a few things to try?

Magic - thanks Scott. Sorted!

Found a loose connection behind the reverse button on the dash.
Fixed that and managed to get the relay box clicking. Still wouldnt turn
the reverse motor so I checked the voltage at the motor and the looks
like a bad earth. Earthed it directly to the chassis and it works fine.

I assume that is an acceptable fix?

Well done.. I think that would count as an acceptable fix.. might try that myself as mine hasn't work for a while now. maybe an earth issue as well..

When you say works fine.. does it actually reverse the car?

Well.... it turns the wheels backwards when it is on Jacks.
I guess I should check the reversing over a block of wood test?

lol - stand well clear Tim.... the balls and clips have a habbit of jumping out of the reverse mechanism...

Sounds like about 100mm backwards completely on the level (sans block of wood) would be sufficient ............. see you Saturday week Tim.
