Anyone else make it along to watch the Radicals racing at Castle Combe today ?

The club cup race was very good with interesting battle between the PR6s at the front.
Unfortunately Simon Tilling had a problem on the start line, so his SR3 was missing from the front runners.

The UK cup race was good as well, the speed of a well driven SR8 is truely impressive. Is it just me though or do they
seem to have real reliability issues ? There were a couple retired and one or two limping round the circuit very slowly
by the end of the race. Also, this is the third UK cup race I have seen this year, and 4 SR8s have spontaneously combusted over these.
Any idea what the cause it ?

Anyway, well driven to all those on PH, it was a pleasure to watch.

James

Unfortunately not, but I did have a chat with Gary K afterwards, who had a pretty excellent day, 3rd in Race 1 Club and a very impressive 2nd in UK; his brakes went long in Race 2 Club and (wisely IMHO because of CC's lack of run-off space) he decided to leave the fray early. Sensible thinking with the likes of all those super quick ROC Members really going for it and climbing all over the back ...... not a great situation to be in with brakes that are sort of there one minute, then on the floor the next!

Congrats to all who took part and I think there are two (amongst many such as Darren L who got good results in both Club Races) who merit particular mention; firstly of course, Colin M with a brace of wins and secondly, Manhol A who all should now reflect took a bit of of stick when he posted up his video of participating in CC Special GTs to get track time in the then unfamiliar SR8 earlier this year; 4th in the UK kind of does the speaking for itself?

Simon T also looks to be in fine fettle, so should be the man to beat in tomorrow's SGTs. Nonetheless, good luck to all competing tomorrow.

As for the apparent propensity for SR8s to bring unexpected warmth (as much as it was appreciated at cold blow as usual Rock earlier this year), I'd be interested to hear on that; whose turned to toast today?

Well done to Darren, considering you punny little engine wink that was two remarkable races. Not to mention the 1:03.8 pole time....simply stunning. Can't wait to next year winkbiggrin

And to our Mr T, shame about the start on the first race...well done for not punching me but I had to take the mickey...after all you would have if the tables were turned. Nice 3rd place in the second race.

The UK Cup thing....what a waste of track time that championship is...14 cars to start only 9 finish and ony 2 of them on the same lap sleepsleepsleep ..... Have another Club race or two driving

P.S. there is only one "o" in Combe wink

It was the Woodward/Kaiser car today, although it didn't look as serious as the fires from Rockingham or Brands.

As for the dodgy spelling in the title....my only excuse it getting up at 5am to be there in time to watch you guys qualify laugh

Let that PS be a lesson to you Josh.

BTW Rob, there's an "r" in Your and just one "n" in Puny. Like you say, some mickey taking opportunities are just simply irresistible!

Do I read that correctly, that we are going to have you back where you belong next year? I.e. in a Radical? Hope so! Clearly it's not going to be in an SR8, so let's hope it's in Radical's Devil's Child, a PR06

LOL .. well Engrish was never my best subject at skol! biggrin

Sorry to disappoint, that comment was aimed at a conversation myself and Darren was having today(yes more mickey taking wink) . Unless I win the lottery its unlikely I'll be out in a Radical again any time soon, sadly.

Cheers Rob, thanks for the piss taking & encouragement in equal measure!!

Not quite sure how I managed that pole lap but doubt I could do it again any time soon......... Throughly enjoyed my first time out at Castle Combe, really looking forward to next year with a bit more thrap under the hood!

Just managed to nip past Colin in race 2 into the tighter of the esses with a lap or two to go with a bit of daring do on the brakes, but lost out on the drag race out of the corner, bugger.......

Nice One (make that two) Darren - are you really going to have the patience to wait till next season for the stroker .......... ?

Bert: Mark Boot took the Clubsport Class in both races; you can see by visiting http://www.tsl-timing.com/barc/2009/92921.pdf ; they do a great job these guys ; results are updated within minutes of any/every finish

Yes definitely be next year for a big bore engine for me, not too much left of this season now......

Most of all I am so chuffed about finally having sorted out the brake problem I have had all year, such a boon to have a solid pedal all race!

Well done Darren.

Out of interest - what did you do to sort out the brakes?

To be honest I was at the end of my tether with the brakes, so much so I had contemplated selling the car if I couldn't get it sorted soon.

In the end I replaced all the discs / pads, fitted new seals in all the calipers plus top spec brake fluid so am not exactly sure what was the root cause, however I think that the main culprit was the very old pads being approx halfway worn & thus allowing the caliper pistons to be quite a long way out of the calipers, wether this manifests itself with additional pedal travel all the time & then maybe the surface of the old pads may have been over heating after too many heat cycles I am not really sure?

Thanks guys, Rob, I thought my self control was the highlight of my weekend smile

I'm feeling like an old man after two days of hard racing.

I understand Manhal happened to depart the pit lane during a feu rouge
