Sorry, starting another topic - one just posted jogged my memory about this!
Our 'optional extra' thermostatic electric fan to the water radiator seems to have suddenly developed a mind of it's own; previously it has turned itself off 'clean' (things are cool enough, so let's stand down until they go back up again), but for the past fortnight or so, it seems to be far less 'sure'; turning off, then coming back on, going back off, coming back on, all in very short periods; almost sounds like it's revving.
The relay is mounted near the coolant swirl pot and when all this is going on (as one might expect) the relay is constantly clicking away. Obviously, rather not have the fan working itself to death, so any suggestions as to what's up? Faulty relay? Some sort of sensor?
Thanks.

you have to determine if the relay is being commanded to close by the thermostat at the required temperature. with the varying speeds of teh fan it sounds like high (or varying resistance) across the contacts of the main relay.
it easy enough. just break it down in to "control" and "relay"... mind you it could be a high resisitance fuse carrier.

On the basis that you have definitely forgotten more than I will ever know about 'electrics', does this mean you suspect the relay itself is on the blink? Presumably, such a relay is 'sealed for life' and has to be replaced as a complete item/component? Where's best to buy? By the way, when I said Kenlowe, I meant that in the same vein as a Hoover being in effect a generic term for a vacuum cleaner; don't know yet whether it's a Kenlowe, Pacet etc yet.
While I think of it, I watched your Complete Trackday Outfit Film the other night; very useful and most informative for those wanting an intro to what Radical Trackdaying involves (envious of the electric winch!). Most interested in that manual rev adjuster you've got; darn useful, particularly when one is warming up solo; can you tell us/show us a bit more about it, like where it fits, where you got it etc. Perhaps clever enough to be something you've put together yourself? Does it stay there or do you remove it before putting the bodywork back on?
Cheers
If the relay is obviously seperatable, just take it to your local motorfactor and get a replacement to try, not a big cost. They are also very easy to test with 12v and a meter. You should be able to isolate the problem that way. If the control unit and relay is all one, it may be a bit more complex.

the idle adjuster came with the car. i can say no more! it looks like an OEM part.
regarding the relay etc.... any chance of some photos of what you have in the relay and t/stat department?
Cheers

Care to expand on the location of that one please Trevor?Nick
Came across it on YouTube ........ guess what, now I can't find it anywhere ........ perhaps you can post up a link Dario? Was interested to see that Dario uses assistor ramps for his RS3/SR3 Combo.
