Looks to be rubber'framed 100% highly durable micro metal mesh to me.

Is that the standard jobbie?

I just remove and comprehensively blow ours out with an airline after every Trackday.

OK or should I wash out with something like white spirit or meths or petrol?; should I use a spray after, if so recommendations?

Thanks

I've been led to believe that they are K&N parts, at least for the 1200 if they are different. Info on cleaning them here http://knfilters.com/faq.htm#16.

Bad news is you shouldn't use a air line on them. Get a cleaning kit, most decent motorbike shops will sell these and give a dam good clean and re-oil.

Thanks Guys

Luckily, I exaggerated slightly; my air line was actually me blowing it from clean side out after gently tickling the dirty side with a very soft natural bristle brush (so not much pressure at all after umpteen years of being a smoker!) followed by a bit of WD40. That said, I shall of course do it properly in future - what a pity the Owners Manual gives hardly any useful basic maintenance information like that. Unless I'm missing it, doesn't get a mention anyway.

I intend to do this every time I change the oil and filter which we do after every second Trackday. OK?

Bit over kill if you ask me, by all means give it a clean out but no need to keep oiling it. Do that once a season imho

Knock it on a wall, blow the flies off, then stick it in - simples!

Simon

BTW you can use the same process for the air filter if you want
