Hi,
I changed my gearing for Spa on Monday and Tuesday and the speedo doesn't read any different to either of the 2 gear sets I have had in there before, I put the 2,917 gear in for Spa so it is one longer than standard and 2 longer than the gear that was in the car when i bought it 9set up for Knock Hill).
Obviously the car is faster at the top end now but the speedo still tops out at about 138mph (should be over 150). Is this because the speed reading is taken off the gearbox rather than a wheel ? How can I recalibrate it ?
BTW, Pis*ed it down all day on Monday and with no wets the whole day was a write off, can't beat Beligum for rain !
Cheers
Ali

Hi there
there SR3 speedo is taken from a wheel speed sensor on one of the front wheels, so no need for it to be recalibrated

Mmmm, not what I wanted to hear. In theory as I have gone 2 gears longer than what was in the car originally, the car should be about 17mph quicker and Radical quote 153 as top end for the 2.9 gears. I reckon the max I would have seen if I took it to the limiter would have been 140. I don't understand why the speedo is not showing higher speeds.....

Don't worry about it as the speedo on the SR3 is miles out particularly over 100mph. You're better off working the speed out using rpm, gear ratio, tyre circumference.

To get a SR3 to do 150mph you'll have to throw it off a cliff wink

I was there on the monday and tuesday and have to agree about the weather!

I did have wets , but had lost my wet weather bottle untill i decided to take the X5 3.0d out on track.... that was funny.

anyway after that i took the SR3 out and had fun after i dialed my brain in.

next day was much better. my speedo and the GPS lap timer i used where about the same. 134 was the max i could acheive down the kammel straight (after i was advised to lower the upper element) before this the max i could acheive was 124mph.

however to get to 134 i had to be wanging it throught Eau rouge to keep up the momentum.

lots of traffic on both days :-(

Hi Dario,
Were you in the red SR3 in the garage or the one with the mobile tent ?
One of the guys in our group is a semi-pro race driver in that black 430 Scuderia - I went out with him and could not believe how the electronics allowed him to corner so fast, it was literally frightening at some points,,,,,, I couldn't understand why on about the 5th lap he suddenly slowed down on one of the corners before Blanchimont,,,,and then the red SR3 went past him !! Now I wish I hadn't sold my wets, can't believe the grip you (or whoever it was) got in those conditions, nothing else was getting close to that Scuderia in the wet but the SR3 just sailed past !!
What gear ratios were you running to get 134mph and was that anywhere near max revs ?

Hi Alistair,

It was me in the red Radical in the garage along from yours but I must say I was probably more amazed than anybody at the grip the wets were generating. I'm surprised nobody asked why I had such a big grin on me gob for most of the day, only really tempered by the dampness in the Trossachs. I'm sure the guys I was with were heartily sick of me telling them how good it was out there blabla. That follows a particularly frustrating day at a wet Silverstone on road legal Dunlops which were worse than useless and that decided me to invest in a set of wets. One of my rare good decisions apparently biggrin.

Went for a walk with Rob C up to the outside of Eau Rouge on Tuesday to get a view of the track and we were watching you going through for a while. Came along to try and find you afterwards as I wasn't certain that you knew that your splitter was in contact with the road for quite a while through the compression at the bottom and part way up the other side. I guessed you couldn't have missed it but in case you did and are wondering, that could be why you have a bit of wear now.

if it was a red SR3 with white side posds then it was me..... if it was a sterling grey X5 3.0d then that was me as well.

most likely it was Martin in his all red SR3 LM

to be fair it probably wasn't me as i did not go out on the track in the SR3 until i took out the X5. then once i had got my head round it and put my waterproofs on i had no problems.

i do prefere the dry.

What does LM mean after SR3? Saw it on another not so long ago and wondered then.

IIRC LM denotes le mans which is the newer version of the bodywork update styled after the sr9

Hi Martin,
Yeah I realised the splitter was scrubbing, that is the second one I've knackered in 2 track days ! After doing the first one at Silverstone in April, I was sure it was becuase the prongs at the front were hanging low (the rivots had loosened up). So I bought a new splitter and re-rivoted the prongs, it seemed to sit higher,,,,,,obviously not though. I increased the ride height after 2 sessions at Spa and it seems to have solved it.

I'm now in the market for a new splitter so if anyone knows where I can get one ? Is it easier to fit the later splitter (i.e the one that does not wrap up at the sides and doesn't have the downward lip at the front) ??
Cheers
Ali

Neil Cox has a couple of splitters advertised on Rob C's website here: http://www.mtcracing.co.uk/page283.asp . Not sure if they are exactly what you are looking for as perhaps red may not be your first choice for colour biggrin
