One for the racers amongst us - my reading of the blue book is that a Radical shouldn't need a rain light for MSA races as it already has two rear lights (at least my SR4 does), am I reading this correctly? If not do you wire one of these http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p1454/HIGH-VISIB... or similar into the rear light wiring or does it need to run off a separate circuit?

I wired exactly one of those rain lights into the offside rear lighting loom (but fitted centrally in the rear bodywork) to come on with the lights, everybody has been happy with that set up so far.

Thanks Darren. I noticed a number of Radical factory cars did have the extra central rain light but the blue book didn't seem to confirm it as mandatory which it sounds like it is.

Strange how topics reappear from time to time >

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... LED lights

Strange too that there never seems to be a definitive and clear cut answer .......... what appears to be a simple question often seems to result in various (often unclear, open to interpretation and contradictory) books being referred to.

So according to whether or not it's an official Radical Series >

Does a Race Radical have to have a Rain Light ?

My thought in passing is that if there is any race series in the UK that doesn't require a rain light, they probably need 'hanging'. Afterall, it may only save your life.

My idea of a proper Rain Light (given it's purpose i.e. to help stop the car behind you whacking into the back of yours when all that may otherwise be seen is a great plume of spray) is one that is pulsing, unbelievably bright and positioned slap bang in the centre of the car, seperate from any other lights (should the vehicle have any)

If it does have to have a Rain Light, what type can it or cannot it be?

A fixed (non-pulsing) pathetic thingie perhaps made for 10p in China or a pulsing high intensity LED.

Another thought in passing is that would you really increase your risk for the sake of a few quid? Buy the best available or trust your luck to that thingie made for 10p in China?

As I read it, Radical insist on a proper state of the art Rain Light in any Series they run? If so, good for them. Do they insist it has to be 'theirs'? If yes and it's because there's no equal approved, fair enough. If there are equal approved (lanan showed us one that looked to be in that earlier thread) and it's still a no no, that's another matter all together. No problem at all with the 'equalisation' theory of control tyres & fuel and lifing (particularly safety) etc, but presuming there's a proper quality standard for such items (like restraints, belts, helmets, suits, boots etc) control rain lights would be something else !
