Hi All

Does anyone know of a good source (or have a spare one) of hyabusa starter motors?

I need a pre-2002 short shaft one after we managed to strip the teeth on the current one.

Cheers

A few years ago I bought a pattern one from DK motorcycles if I remember correctly, was only about £130 & has continued to start a high compression 1400cc Busa motor fitted in a pals Caterham with no issues.

I stripped the teeth on our similar engined Radical when I span it at Brands and didn't dip the clutch. They do this because it's permenantly engaged.

We replaced it with something slightly different and I'll check what our wizz with bike engines came up with as this now won't do that.

I'll post when I find out.

Thanks, got a new one from a friendly sprint contender so will be back up and running asap.

I'd be interested in how you solved this though silverthorn, I have been told a number of times since we stripped it that some ECU's are programmed to not fire the ignition until the starter is moving the engine fast enough. Apparently this stops it kicking back. I need to get in touch with the guy from Emerald now though and see if we can implement something similar.

sportslibre. I thought you were at Harewood? ... Paul is still pushing for me to enter.

Just waiting for the definative information and I'll let you know. Glad you are up and running again though. Might not get the info until early next week when we are at a track day at Goodwood on Monday.

The MBE 992 ecu has a system called easy start which won't start the engine until its reaches a certain amount of revs, to stop the kick bak scenario.

It won't help though when spinning as this reverses the drive iirc.

It was spinning at Bottom Bend, showing my age there, probably Graham Hill Bend nowadays, that did our starter in!

I couldn't work out why it wouldn't start as I was perched on the kerbing, until we got it off in the garage and all the bits fell out as a fine metallic dust!!

Go on, you'll enjoy it, a real change to the big airfields and circuits.
