Has any one got a photograph showing the location of
the useless reverse motor on a Clubsport/Prosport?

I can't figure out how or where it fits?

Thanks Tim

Hi Tim, will take a picture of mine and post it on this topic.

On another theme, how can I identify which Nik Link Bar I have fitted on my car (Hard, med, soft)?? Is it colour, thickness.... have looked for but can't find any markings.

Hi Alan - thanks for that.

I am pretty sure it is the thickness of the arb.

I have three different diameter bars which I guess are hard, medium and soft.
I will measure them and post the dims

Hi Alan

Just measured them - 22mm, 19mm and 16mm
which I guess means hard, medium and soft respectively?

Thanks Alan/Martin - It makes sense now !

It looks like the previous owner of my Clubsport
cut off the mounting plate when they removed the reverse motor.

Looks like it might be a bit more of a project than I thought!

Tim

Hi Tim,

I seem to remember my CS had a bolt on bracket to hold the rev motor, do you gave the mount holes in the chassis?

Tim,
Do you need it to work? if so I would suggest that rather than going to a lot of effort only to be disapointed? look into using a mini starter motor driving onto a flywheel drive ring mounted onto the diff.. its been done a few times before so can't be that hard....

Hi Simon - no, I have the two ends of the plate welded onto the chassis
where it has been cut off!!!

Mind you - I guess I could drill and bolt a new plate onto these?

Yours was welded to the chassis too Simon, we took the reverse motor off and left the bracket on the chassis.

Clearly my memory is fading with age smile

Not sure about a Mini starter motor, you could also put a couple of ship anchors on board as well if you wanted to add some weight...

Defo welded on Cause I cut mine off as it stopped ripping my hands and arms apart when working down the side of the engine.

Has any one installed this system and if so what was involved and how reliable has it proven to be?

Westgarage say it won't fit a Radical? although I think it could be modified to suit. Radical sell all new parts for their reverse motor as I recently bought some inc the spring clip.. speak to Simon in Parts..?

In my humble (!) opinion, the Clubsport, great little machine though it is, has two Achilles heels - one is the outrageous price of new bodywork (just how long can it take to amortise the cost of a few body moulds?) - the other is the god-awful reverse gear system.

With a view to addressing the latter, I emailed Doug at West Garage and got this helpful reply from him ...

"My electric reverse motor would normally drive a gear wheel fitted alongside the differential sprocket.
The motor being mounted on a pivoting bracket to bring the gears into mesh via a pull cable.
Unfortunately the way the differential mounts in the Radical chassis does not give me enough room to mount the motor as it sticks out past the right hand bearing carrier.
However I believe it could be fitted in a similar position to the original Radical reverse and use the the slotted drive nut.
Actuation would need to be via a sliding bracket and push/pull cable.
Have you looked at the LYNX-AE electric reverse system?
It uses a geared motor driving a special gear attached to the output sprocket of the gearbox.
I know that they make drives for the Busa and the R1 and advertise that they will make them for other units"

... so I then emailed Jon at Lynx-AE and got this ...

"Yes we can make a reverse gear (for the Clubsport). Please call me on 07831556973 for more info. Many thanks - Jon Lee"

I haven't yet got back to Jon, so I don't know how well his system would work on a Clubsport - has anyone tried this solution?

Hi any updates on this stuff lads? I'm looking at getting a reverse now, I've got the old radical clubby reverse that came with the car but sounds like it's not worth fitting.

Cheers,

Dunc.
