Anybody have experience of changing over from the standard solid brake Hispec setup to the floating optional brakes at all?

I still have the brake problem previously mentioned despite fitting a new upright at the weekend.

I am now contemplating going to the floating setup in a bid to cure this, which would be a shame as when the current pedal is solid (when its used in quick succession) the brakes I have at the moment are pretty good with great modulation, this I would hate to loose by changing over to floaters?

I have used both, 2004 car without, 2006 car with. They make a big improvment.

Back when I still had my Prosport, I bought all new calipers one off season (4-pot vented in the front, 2 pot solid in the rear) for the princely sum of about $350US from eBay (or similar). What a HUGE difference. I had rebuilt the calipers previously, and it made some small difference, but just having brand new calipers was a much bigger difference.

My new SR3 has floating rotors and hi-spec calipers front and rear, and they are nice, but before I went to the expense of the floating rotor upgrade, I might just buy new calipers (Wilwoods are cheap) and see how you get on.

Buying new also gives the opportunity to upgrade to the latest designs of the specific calipers from Wilwood. If you get the new calipers and still aren't happy, then you can always flip them on eBay or similar for 75% of what you paid for them and not be too far put out by the experiment.

My free advice. Probably worth exactly what you paid for it. smile

Can't quite convince myself to go for the floaters just yet........

Whilst the extra stopping power would be very welcome & a more solid pedal would be great for consistency, I am really concerned that I may lose the extremely well modulated braking feel I have at the moment & end up with something overly snatchy & grabby. Any feedback on that score guys?
