Plugged my laptop into the MBE on the PR6 & have noted that the MBE screen shows a far higher water temp by around 15C than then Radical dash display.

They are a short distance apart & could vary by a small amount I guess but that seems too much to be a true reading?

To try & confirm the temp I used one of those lazer type thermal readers on the machined spacer that the dash display takes it readings from & that was within a couple of degrees of the dash display, is that likely to be trustworthy?

Do I trust the dash or the MBE read out, bearing in mind if the water is 90C on the dash the MBE tells me its 105c+
?

Anyone have a generic part number or description for the temp probe the dash reads from?

Hi, If I was you I would leave NOTHING to trust on a race car. A quick call to Powertec would be the order of the day I think...

Simon, when it was on the dyno at Radical 10 days ago James noted the same discrepancy & suggested the MBE reading is more likely to be the correct one so I have been adding 15c to the dash value & moderating temps on that basis but with the reading of the lazer gun being with a couple of degree's of the dash I am beginning to wonder............

Guess I shall have to replace both of the temp senders then!

what was James comparing the MBE reading with on the dyno? Ie was the engine on a dyno cell and therefore using a different temp sender to the one on the dash?

If so then do you have 2 sensors reading the same and the MBE one reading higher? That will determine which to check first.

ETA: don;t those laser thingies have to be shone on black surfaces to read correctly?

James was plugged into my MBE which was reading my watertemp via the second temp sensor fitted in the back of the barrels 15cm away from the dash temp sensor that plugs into the machined water outlet from the barrels.

Yes that was after a race, sat in the pits & had to allow it to cool before moving it again.

Temperature maintenance should be sorted now as I have a had a fan fitted to her over the winter!
