I'm in the market for a two-seat sports racer, and might want to compete in a race that will require the car to be driven in transit on public roads (the event is meant for real street cars, but I like bringing guns to knife fights). Never minding registration issues (in my state I believe its actually easier than SVAing a car in the UK), what needs to be done to make the car streetable (other than the standard lights, blinkers, etc)?

As far as I can tell, the only thing that makes it less streetable than your average Seven is the ground clearance. Can the cars be raised enough without totally messing up their suspension geometry? Do you have to install taller wheels and tires? 17" wheels would give the best selection of road-legal tires in SR3 widths (as there is less available in the standard 15/16" sizes), but I'm assuming 25" tall tires would be too tall for the bodywork.

I know its do-able, because lunatics have run the One Lap of America (~4,000 street miles plus events on 8 tracks) in a SR3.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Grant

You 'Yankees' and your guns !

It's definitely do-able, the maximum ground clearance you'll be able to lift it to for road use and for the suspension settings and geometry still to work is about 100mm; that should be more than enough for your nice smooth roads, compared to our pot-holed lanes with umpteen stupid 'sleeping policemen' (speed reducing ramps) all over the show. To get a wider choice of street legal rubber, I'm sure you'll be able to up the rim sizes at least one size and use lower profile tires to bring the overall diameter back to near enough right; it won't give as much outright grip as the tall wall slicks, but there'll still be more than enough to smoke such as a GT3RS around the bendy bits. I'm assuming that the Radical's lack of straightline speed compared to the Porker wouldn't be a problem on the 'transit roads' ........................presumably you should be sticking to 55mph ? ................................ yawn.

Hope of assistance smile

splitpin thanks, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

100mm sounds like plenty. My Viper has 110mm at the frame, and a lot less under the (very pricey) splitter. It does rub on some driveways and parking lots, but the splitter is also designed to flex upwards upon contact and has nice thick plastic rub-strips on it.

We call them "speed bumps" over here, and they are all over private properties like parking lots and residential neighborhoods. I don't think they'll be a problem though, as I don't intend to use the car to pick up milk (or maybe I will once or twice, just for the hell of it).

55 mph, of course! I'd never exceed the posted speed limit rotate
