This info is mainly intended for Scott, but might be useful for anyone else re-installing a Kawasaki engine in a Clubsport who can’t remember what connects to what.

My car is an early model, built in ’98, with chassis number 0033 (and a splendid little machine it is!).

Battery Earth Lead:
Connects between battery –ve terminal and screw at 7 o’clock position on the cover toward the bottom of the engine on the LHS.

Coil Connection:
Two standard Kawasaki coils are used, mounted on short spacer pillars on the engine bay front bulkhead upper chassis member (just behind the pilot’s shoulders). They are mounted horizontally, such that their high-tension (output) terminals point toward each other. Connections are thus:-

L/H Coil:
Low-tension (input) connections - red upper / blue lower
High tension (output) connections – upper to plug 2 / lower to plug 3

R/H Coil:
Low-tension (input) connections – blue & white upper / red lower
High tension (output) connections – upper to plug 1 / lower to plug 4

Note that number 1 plug is at the L/H (cam chain) end of the engine.

Note also that that plug lead on number 1 is longest, plug lead on number 4 is shortest.

This should get you going, but gimme a bell if you have any other queries.

Cheers

Laurence

Thanks Laurence..

Out of interest do the Red wire's go onto the green or black marked connectors on the coils? as if you rotate the L/H one to the R/H one the connector at the top ends up at the bottom and vice versa, and as I am in a right mess I don't know which is which..

Also I think mine are numbered from the RH end of the engine which is wrong as the No1 lead is the shortest and No4 the longest..

Good question - not sure of the answer. I'll be in the workshop tomorrow. Will check and get back to you.

Now then - here's the definitive low-down on early Clubsport coil connections
(I just know you're all sitting there on the edges of your seats, right? tumbleweed )

As stated in my original posting (and repeated here for the sake of pedantry), two standard Kawasaki coils are used, mounted on short spacer pillars on the engine bay front bulkhead upper chassis member (just behind the pilot’s shoulders). They are mounted horizontally, such that their high-tension (output) terminals point toward each other. Connections are thus:-

L/H Coil:
Low-tension (input) connections are:-
Red lead connected to grey upper terminal
Blue lead connected to green lower terminal
High tension (output) connections are:–
Upper to plug 2 / Lower to plug 3

R/H Coil:
Low-tension (input) connections are:-
Red lead connected to grey lower terminal
Blue & white lead connected green upper terminal
High tension (output) connections are:–
Upper to plug 1 / Lower to plug 4

Note that number 1 plug is at the L/H (cam chain) end of the engine.

Note also that that plug lead on number 1 is longest, plug lead on number 4 is shortest.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Laurence
