Circlips for Clubsport CV Joints

During testing for this year's Birkett at Silverstone, one of my inboard CV joints fell apart - it turned out that the circlip had let go and the inner rotor of the CV joint decided to move house! I think the circlip had become tired and wasn't properly seated in circlip groove in the shaft.

A request for spare circlips from the Ford main dealer was met with a "No mate - you gotta buy the whole CV joint".

Any one know where I can buy just the circlips? Alternatively, has anyone successfully used conventional (loop-ended) circlips instead?

For reference, the circlip I'm referring to is the one shown in Nasaracer's excellent photo in 911Hillclmber's topic "Removing CVs: I'm Baffled"

I have never found a source for any of the clips used in CV's, but have made my own when they are round spring wire (made from piano wire from a Model Shop)
