In Praise of Quaife
Discussion
Whilst refurbishing the driveshafts on my 10 year old Clubsport recently, I found that one of the diff support bearings was a tad stiffer than the other, so decided to renew them both. So with diff out and support bearings removed, I decided it would be a small step to refurb and regrease the diff (it's one of Quaife's original Automatic Torque Bias units as fitted to the early clubsports - doesn't have grease nipples, so has to be dismantled to re-grease).
Anyway, after a phone call and a couple emails, it was established that the only thing I needed to to do was to dismantle and clean all parts, fit new Bellville washers (though this probably wasn't entirely necessary) and regrease with Castrol LM high-temperature grease. I had to call again to establish the stacking sequence of the Bellville washers (like saucers: up-down-up-down-up-down), but otherwise this was an easy (and interesting) job. The Quaife guys were friendly, courteous and helpful and even supplied the Bellville washers free-of-charge.
I'm happy!
